Culture, etc.: Late Oscars Response II
http://cultureetc.blogspot.com/2011/03/late-oscars-response-ii.html
Monday, 7 March 2011. Late Oscars Response II. I've been reliably informed by Empire. My film magazine of choice since I was 15) that there are 27 sequels out this year, so it seemed only fitting that I do a sequel to my Oscars post from a few days ago. I originally wrote this article for Epigram. Putting aside the inherent arguments about the ridiculous amount of money spent on rewarding people in the film industry who generally earn millions anyway, why spend 3 hours being drip fed information by a liv...

Sewaholic Belcarra Blouse | bethstitches
https://bethstitches.wordpress.com/2015/03/08/sewaholic-belcarra-blouse
Look at what I did! I am pretty ashamed that I am only just now joining the Sewaholic Patterns. Party Tasia has designed so many good patterns and I’ve had my eye on them all, but I am only just now experiencing the magic. Secretly, I did sew the Renfrew first earlier in February, but for today, behold the Belcarra blouse! I guess I sort of tried to match the chevron print at my seams, but only half heartedly. This makes me wish it was warmer outside. I purchased this fabric from the ever faithful Mood.

Culture, etc.: November 2011

Friday, 18 November 2011. Failure With A Capital F. I shouldn't make vague statements of intent (see previous post. They usually fail. Though admittedly, this time I have a good reason: life just got in the way. I had to go home unexpectedly for some quite sad reasons in the middle of October, then spent the next couple of weeks trying to catch up. Plus I had my first essay deadline of the year, friends staying, parties to host and a section of a website to run. Fresh Meat, Episode 8. The Ides of March.

Culture, etc.: Bieber Fever (aka Cinematic Stockholm Syndrome)
http://cultureetc.blogspot.com/2011/03/bieber-fever-aka-cinematic-stockholm.html
Wednesday, 9 March 2011. Bieber Fever (aka Cinematic Stockholm Syndrome). A few weeks ago, I had the bizarre experience of paying to see Never Say Never 3D. Aka The Justin Bieber Film). My entire family mocked me as a consequence, but I was doing it for Epigram. Talking with a worrying amount of world weariness for someone who's only 18). Never Say Never. Is no cinematic masterpiece, but it’s one of the better examples of the concert experience/pseudo-documentary films that have become the money-sp...

Culture, etc.: Re-Commitment to Blogging
http://cultureetc.blogspot.com/2011/10/re-commitment-to-blogging.html
Friday, 7 October 2011. One of my major flaws is not always persevering with things – not important things mind, but things that no-one is actually relying on me to do, where no-one will really care if I don’t do it. Blog writing is definitely one of those things. But this year, I am very determined to buck that trend, as this is my final year as an undergraduate English student at Bristol University (aahhhh! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. I've been talking about.

Culture, etc.: April 2011
http://cultureetc.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Friday, 22 April 2011. Review: Red Riding Hood. Has a lot to answer for. Besides the fact that the books are awful and the films aren’t much better, the success of Stephanie Meyer’s vampiric tetralogy almost undoubtedly led to the production of Red Riding Hood. The film is based loosely on the Charles Perrault and Brothers Grimm versions of the classic fairy tale, though it feels unfair to associate such great writers with such a poor film. 8217; or ‘ooh, suspicious! Monday, 11 April 2011. Much as I lov...

Culture, etc.: Pancake Day!
http://cultureetc.blogspot.com/2011/03/pancake-day.html
Tuesday, 8 March 2011. Happy Pancake Day/International Women's Day! It's an old-fashioned, but adorable, book that was first published in the 1960s and features recipes for dishes such as Party Gammon and Jugged Kippers, but also really reliable recipes for more classic dishes. My family's copy is so well used that it's falling apart at the seams, so my mum and I hunted down an elusive extra copy for me to take to Bristol (we eventually found one in a garden centre). 4 tsp baking powder. I like to eat mi...

Good things in 2016 – Velo City Girl

Good things in 2016. Good things in 2016. Jan 3, 2017. Posted by Lady Vélo. So, in keeping with looking at the good stuff that happened to VCG, I’ve narrowed it down to this lot…. You might be surprised to see this as a best bit. March wasn’t exactly my strongest month. My TIA currently holds the title as the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me. PUTTING MY HAPPINESS FIRST AND MAKING VCG A PRIORITY. I chaired the London Bike Kitchen #LBKWaG. Give another talk to a full house and meet some more baada...

Introducing Boy J – Vicki Kate Makes
https://vickikatemakes.wordpress.com/2015/03/19/introducing-boy-j
March 19, 2015. I swear time is definitely more wobbly-wobbly-timey-wimey than any sort of constant. The last six or seven weeks have just disappeared; it’s been a roller coaster, that’s for sure but I think we’re starting to find some sort of new normality. I’d like to introduce Boy J, baby brother to Boy (now known as Boy A)! We’re doing fine! These photos have all been robbed from Husband’s i-Phone as I didn’t take any in the first few days. About three hours old. And seriously spaced out me. My wound...
