Heroism, liminality, time — Paul Maharg

Heroism, liminality, time. Why were they unhappy with each other? In my fourth and last year in the school I came upon Robert Graves’. The Siege and Fall of Troy. Goodbye to All That. When I learned that he too, in the midst of boarding school misery, turned to the Iliad as escape from the present, it made sense to me. It was an escapist turn to a world at once recognisable, but completely alien; neither one thing nor the other, neither historical fact nor pure fiction but a domain between. February 11, ...

Many thanks to Jane Ching and Jo Boylan-Kemp and their team for organising such a great conference. The things that Jack makes. A fledgling flight of creativity. June 2, 2015. Beads and beads and then some beads. Dear Reader, the postman came. I was expecting a shoebox. There was a shoebox. To fit a clown’s shoe. And it was inside a considerably bigger box, ingeniously packed with newspaper and squished egg boxes. My father has never been one for hyperbole, so when he said there was “some bits and pieces’, I assumed thats what would arrive. Shows how much I know. So, there were pearl-type beds. There&#...

The things that Jack makes. A fledgling flight of creativity. April 3, 2015. Repair, recycle, rejoice. And after. Very much a bargain for a small repair. Now, the recycling! I deconstructed the beads into respective sizes. Used a nifty jump ring design from Dorothy Wood’s The Beaders Bible. And ended up with this. It’s a wonderful thing to get home from work and have a happy reaction! This entry was posted in bunny. Sewing holes in jumpers. Talk to me Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. You are commen...

The Ramblings of a Legal Academic. Publications and Publication Projects. Sexual Orientation and Academic Identity. Category Archives: Higher Education. Thanks from the picket line and the sofa. Thank you thank you thank you to the guys driving a university van who turned around and didn’t cross the picket line – you’re awesome. The Ramblings of a Legal Academic. Publications and Publication Projects. Sexual Orientation and Academic Identity. I got a bit cross about an article in the Times Higher about paying academics bonuses to boost our productivity. You can read the article here. It’s not worth rewarding? How do we measure performance?
