The same app 4 times: PHP vs Python vs Ruby vs Clojure - Adam Bard and his magical blog
https://adambard.com/blog/PHP-ruby-python-clojure-webapps-by-example
March 25, 2013. The same app 4 times: PHP vs Python vs Ruby vs Clojure. Here’s a toy program I wrote implemented in PHP, Python, Ruby, and Clojure. I hope it’s helpful for someone who knows at least one of those and wants to learn another. The program is called “Nurblizer”, and it does one thing: Accept free-form text, and attempt to replace all words but the nouns in said text with the word “nurble”. It’s up and running at http:/ nurblizer.herokuapp.com. The magic happens in nurble.php. The nouns.tx...

Why Clojure? Part 2: Effortless async by design - Adam Bard and his magical blog
https://adambard.com/blog/why-clojure-part-2-async-magic
April 5, 2013. Part 2: Effortless async by design. As a second part in what I’ve decided will be a series attempting to justify my choice of Clojure as a general-purpose web language, I’d like to talk a little bit about writing asynchronous code in Clojure, and just how easy the design decisions made by Mr. Hickey make that. The basics of async with Clojure are the same as Java; Clojure functions implement Java’s Runnable interface, and so can be spun off as regular Java threads with no extra effort.

https://adambard.com/blog/middleman-enlive-your-new-god
April 2, 2013. Middleman Enlive: The best thing since PHP. Before I begin, the ideas in this article were introduced to me by this blog post. Which I consider a must-read for anyone who uses Clojure on the web. I’ve been using Clojure for web development a lot more lately. This can be a contentious topic for some people. “Clojure is hard to hire for”, they say. “It’s for pretentious nerds”. “It’s overkill for the web”. None of these, I’ve discovered, have a damn thing on Enlive. Why is this so powerful?

April 15, 2016. What’s in a namespace? Every well-behaved clojure source file starts with a namespace declaration. The. Macro, as we all know, is responsible for declaring the namespace to which the definitions in the rest of the file belong, and generally also includes some requirements and imports and whatnot. But today (at Clojure/West, shoutout! Stuart Sierra made a passing reference to the internals of. During his talk that got me interested. But what is a namespace. Read more ». March 29, 2016.

Learn Clojure in 15 minutes, perhaps - Adam Bard and his magical blog
https://adambard.com/blog/clojure-in-15-minutes
June 24, 2013. Learn Clojure in 15 minutes, perhaps. Moving on from pointless flamebait rants. Here’s something a bit more constructive. Inspired by Tyler Neylon’s excellent Learn Lua in 15 minutes. I humbly present my original effort at an equivalent for Clojure (also available as a gist. Comments start with semicolons. Str will create a string out of all its arguments. You need not for logic, too. Nesting forms works as you expect. 1 (3 - 2) = 2. Integer literals are java.lang.Long by default. Seqs are...
