Welcome to Astley Green Colliery Museum's Poets' Corner A number of Lancastrian miners, like miners from elsewhere, were taken to writing verse and poems. Many of their poems were autobiographical and a valuable comment on the society in which they lived. To ensure that these important works are not lost to time, Astley Green Colliery Museum are collecting all such works, not to be put away and forgotten but to be made available to all to read. NEW - FOR SALE. The museum occupies some fifteen acres of the Astley Green Colliery site. To the south lies the Bridgewater Canal and Astley Moss, an important mossland site. The low-lying landscape ensures that the museum's 98ft high lattice steel headgear can be seen for many miles, a fitting memorial to days now past. The museum is now run and maintained, on behalf of the community, by the Red Rose Steam Society Limited, a registered charity based in Lancashire.

2001 to 2004 Astley Green Colliery Museum. The ceilings and the wood block flooring is evidence that the Lodge originally housed the offices of the pit managers. The Lodge now used for housing a number of the smaller exhibits. These include a recreated colliery lamp room, a replica underground roadway display and a small winch engine from Agecroft Colliery.
