L.A. SkateDad: - the parent is a special coach
http://la-skatedad.blogspot.com/2011/10/parent-is-special-coach.html
Sunday, June 21, 2015. The parent is a special coach. After recovering from her ankle injury and now back skating, it has been several months since I've had the pleasure of watching my daughter. I notice she has some technical faults - elements that "project" incorrectly. Hmmm, she says. So she goes back out on the ice and spins a couple more while I tape again. The next few spins are much better. "Nobody every told me that before," she comments, and all I can do is nod my head. Posted by Jeff Chapman.

And how to fix it. Oh, so that’s how it goes! August 15, 2015. Now that there is a movement afoot to allow skaters to choose their own music for compulsory dances (hooray! I have been thinking about all kinds of possibilities. I am just starting to think about music for the Kilian. Since then, I’ve watched countless g...

Silver Blades and Pink Slippers. May 26, 2013 at 9:07 pm Posted in freestyle. Today I went to practice during a freestyle session for the first time in over a year (maybe two years? I’ve honestly lost track. I put skating on hold while I pursued my graduate degree. Now that I am finished with school, and I want to get back in shape and back on the ice. As I skated some laps, I actually considered hanging up the skates for good. I’m almost 31, do I really want to put myself through this anymore? So here I...

Silver Blades and Pink Slippers. August 27, 2014 at 4:22 pm Posted in moves in the field. I’ve been a little overwhelmed the last couple of weeks with wrapping up projects and reports at my job and moving to a new apartment. I’m starting a new position next week. I will have a shorter commute to and from work, so I’m hoping this will lead to more time and energy to skate in the evenings after work. 2 Comments ». Feed for comments on this post. Good luck with the apartment and new position. The Ice Doesn&...

Silver Blades and Pink Slippers. July 14, 2009 at 3:22 pm Posted in ballet. Coaching skating (especially beginners) takes a lot of energy because it is very hands-on. When I leave work I am exhausted and don’t feel like going to a dance class. But I will get around to it soon. I really do miss ballet, and it improves my strength, flexibility, and posture. I know Roberta (my ballet instructor) thinks I have dropped off the planet or quit dance permanently. Not so, I will return …. eventually. Create a fre...
