Acer Palmatum ‘Arakawa’ cuttings | Aijou Bonsai
https://aijoubonsai.wordpress.com/2012/04/22/acer-palmatum-arakawa-cuttings
Acer Palmatum ‘Arakawa’ cuttings. Posted by Scott Roxburgh. Asymp; 6 Comments. Early Spring ’11, my friend was house sitting at a house with a large rough bark japanese maple, Acer Palmatum ‘Arakawa’. Since I have not seen any bonsai ‘Arakawa’ maples in Australia, I decided that I needed to propagate some from cuttings. My aim in the end is to have some ‘Arakawa’ maples with large ‘plate-like’ nebari – inspired by Ebihara. Edit:- a pic of the mini green houses that I used. Graded akadama and pumice mix.

Japan Bonsai – Vancouver B.C. Posted by Scott Roxburgh. Asymp; Leave a comment. So after a recent move with work to Canada, I have had a bit of bonsai withdrawal! I found what claims to be one of the largest bonsai nurseries in North America only 45mins from our new home. On approach to Japan Bonsai, a teaser of what’s to come! As I stepped out of the car I was greeted with quite a large greenhouse, things are looking promising! Junipers on the first bench I saw. A nice landscape pine. Larr; Previous post.

2011 Canberra Bonsai Society Show. Posted by Scott Roxburgh. Asymp; 1 Comment. Last weekend, the Canberra Bonsai Society held its annual show. With the ‘retirement’ of the previous show manager, this year there was an ‘all new’ show committee, layout and backing material. Along with our regular potter Pat Kennedy, there was also new traders. I even managed to sell some stock trees, wire, Boon care DVDs, Akadama, and Kanuma. The guest demonstrator’s award this year was presented by Megumi Bennett. Megumi ...

Japanese Black Pine 2012 Seedlings. Posted by Scott Roxburgh. Asymp; Leave a comment. After finally finding JBP seeds in 2011, I sowed around 400 in Winter 2012. Around 99% sprouted, and I took around 100 seedling cuttings. Late Winter/Early spring is the ideal time to be repotting the seedlings. As I have both seedling cuttings and straight seedlings I thought it would be interesting to show the differences between using the technique and just letting them grow freely. Both seedlings are useful for bons...

JBP Shohin growing at Japan Bonsai, White Rock B.C. Posted by Scott Roxburgh. Asymp; Leave a comment. Following on from the last post here are some pics of probably my favourite bonsai at the moment, future JBP Shohin bonsai:. I have talked before. About how I have started seedling JBPs destined for shohin bonsai, but as always Jonas. Shows it much clearer. There were only a few of the older stock JBP left. This one appears to be around 6-7 years old from the appearance of the bark. Larr; Previous post.

Welcome to my world of bonsai and ceramics, the perfect mix of art and science. Tuesday, 27 January 2015. Post 190 Japanese Garden - Portland Oregon. Up on the hill behind Portland city is the celebrated Japanese Garden of Professor Takuma Tono. I had the pleasure of a recent business trip to the US north west and took the opportunity to visit the garden. It's on the site of a defunct city zoo and was established among the native conifers in the 1960s. Sunday, 11 January 2015. Summertime here means high ...

Welcome to my world of bonsai and ceramics, the perfect mix of art and science. Monday, 25 August 2014. Post 167 BCI 2014 Convention at the Gold Coast. The convention ran over three days at a big hotel in Surfer's Paradise with Australian, Indian, Indonesian, Chinese and Japanese demonstrators. The exhibition of trees, some 70 to 75 in number, were mostly from South East Queensland and there were some very impressive trees amongst them. There were a couple of notable exceptions from Canberra. I'm not yet...

Welcome to my world of bonsai and ceramics, the perfect mix of art and science. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Post 205 New Tanuki. Apparently it is also an Australian species growing across the top of the country all around the coastline; also crocodile country. Now wouldn't it be nice to have one of these, but I'm not sure about the collection risks. The one I have made is about 300mm high and is designed to take three trees as 'live veins'. This is the front and you can see the three tracks spiraling up ...
Bonsai & Pottery: Creative Foundations
http://bonsaipotterycoy.blogspot.com/p/creative-foundations.html
Welcome to my world of bonsai and ceramics, the perfect mix of art and science. Everyone has the capacity to assess beauty without any special training, whether that is in a face or a landscape or in architecture. Bonsai inevitably invoke a response in people with an appeal to both the heart and the mind. This confirms bonsai’s status as an art form, which is why when we place one in a container the ch. Oice must create a harmonious union. So the aesthetic appeal we are looking for in the union of contai...

Welcome to my world of bonsai and ceramics, the perfect mix of art and science. Thursday, 27 November 2014. Post 184 Pot 102 Revisited. In January this year I posted a story about some new pots made at the time. Pot 102 was one of those; a largish compound pot with an overlay glazing. In Post 140. It is a pot that needed the right tree and I didn't nave one that made the match. With the movement of the trees to the right the best position for the group in a pot was to the left of centre. I'd done a c...

Welcome to my world of bonsai and ceramics, the perfect mix of art and science. Thursday, 2 July 2015. Post 204 New Elements and New Pots. All this while trying to complete a largish commission order which resulted in a series of failures and rebuilds; very frustrating. Oh yes and also in the middle there the clay supplier and all its distributors ran out of my stoneware clay; aaaahhhhhhhh! That's ok I just hope my trial is now over and order is restored in the pottery universe. Final pot for today it Po...

Chinese Penjing Society of Canada Exhibition. Posted by Scott Roxburgh. Asymp; Leave a comment. After limited bonsai exposure over the last few months, it was good to get a little Penjing into the system today. I found my way over to VanDusen Botanical Gardens. My favourite tree of the show, definitely has a bonsai feel about it…. 8230;And one to show that even a seedling with little to no training can capture the feeling of great beauty. These JBP we...
