Are You There, Blog? It's Me, Marnie.: June 2012
http://marniejutzi.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Are You There, Blog? It's Me, Marnie. Sunday, 17 June 2012. I'll have to check my Chinese calendar. Is this the Year of the Reunion? In 1988, I attended my 25th high school reunion, where I failed to recognize a former boyfriend, and, after an evening of schmoozing at a banquet and dance, discovered the price tag hanging down the back of my new dress. Collin and I have organized a couple of reunions of a former small church congregation. That Ol' Gang of Mine. Life's a Beach in Costa Rica. It seems as we ...

Are You There, Blog? It's Me, Marnie. Monday, 12 November 2012. D'ya remember that song by Joni Mitchell,. We're captive on the carousel of time." We have closed the cottage again in October, pulled in the dock, shut off the water, boarded the windows. Accompanied by the predictable rhetoric, "Where'd the summer go? We are confronted daily by those yardsticks of our rapid journey from cradle to grave . (How many cliches have I used so far - and I'm only into the 2nd paragraph? Same reason, maybe, that yo...

Are You There, Blog? It's Me, Marnie.: That Ol' Gang of Mine
http://marniejutzi.blogspot.com/2012/04/that-ol-gang-of-mine.html
Are You There, Blog? It's Me, Marnie. Tuesday, 3 April 2012. That Ol' Gang of Mine. My husband (Collin) and I are retired educators. Collin finished his teaching career as an elementary school principal, and I as a secondary English teacher. Teaching is a profession whose members tend to move about frequently to different positions, different venues. Over a career, most teachers will engage with many colleagues, forge many friendships, many fleeting, a few enduring. Despite the best intentions to avoid t...

Phil Loses His Mind: To Serve and Protect
http://philipsullivan.blogspot.com/2011/06/to-serve-and-protect.html
Friday, June 24, 2011. To Serve and Protect. I don't really have the energy to write much today, but I felt compelled to share/vent the disappointment I am feeling this morning. Depression, really. Aren't I a nice guy? In Toronto, the fall-out continues with regards to the absolutely insane G20 fiasco. No, not the fact the great Canadian Government (The "Harper Government" you say? From behind those fences, I doubt it. So what was the point of having it here, exactly? What is REALLY upsetting about this ...

Phil Loses His Mind: Tradition! (of the egg nog variety)
http://philipsullivan.blogspot.com/2009/10/tradition-of-egg-nog-variety.html
Thursday, October 15, 2009. Of the egg nog variety). I have an annual tradition. Every year, I buy the first carton of egg nog that I see. I like egg nog. Some people think it's revolting, but those people are ugly. Egg nog with rum? I look forward to that every Christmas. Of course, I usually have way too much and need a year to recover. So guess what I saw when I dropped by the grocery store the other day? So I picked up a carton, went home, and enjoyed my first egg nog of the season. Get off the phone!

Phil Loses His Mind: CRAZY GUN-TOTING COP!!! ...Not so crazy?
http://philipsullivan.blogspot.com/2010/08/crazy-gun-toting-cop-not-so-crazy.html
Tuesday, August 03, 2010. So I'm perusing the site, which is usually pretty interesting, and come across this post. That seems to relate the story of a crazy, gun-waving cop caught on video pointing his firearm at a motorcyclist who was speeding. The story goes on to tell of the crazy lengths the DA is going to to back the officer. The DA part of the story is one thing, and yes it sounds a bit out of touch with reality ("wiretapping"? ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN MILES PER HOUR. The guy starts checking h...

Phil Loses His Mind: Au revoir, Le Marche
http://philipsullivan.blogspot.com/2010/01/au-revoir-le-marche.html
Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Au revoir, Le Marche. On my lunchtime stroll I noticed that Le Marche. At the corner of Yonge and Wellington, had closed. It caught me - and a number of would-be lunchtime patrons - by surprise. There was a sign in the lobby thanking customers for their patronage. Guess it's gone for good. Now I'm not exactly shedding a tear for the place. I hated eating there. It was an overpriced buffet that actually charged an automatic 15% gratuity. (WTF? What will replace the Marche? Ranti...

Phil Loses His Mind: Awesome journalism
http://philipsullivan.blogspot.com/2010/07/awesome-journalism.html
Thursday, July 15, 2010. I read those "commuter" papers on my way to work. They're convenient and free. But, man, do they suck. 24 is by far the greatest offender, but Metro is filled with errors, omissions and nonsense every single day. I fear for the minds of those who take this stuff at face value. This may or may not be related, since I saw the same story reported in The Star. But I thought I'd share this interesting tidbit of info that I came across and made me shake my head. Issue #2: Metro, who pu...

Phil Loses His Mind: Michael Bryant - Darcy Sheppard Incident Follow-up
http://philipsullivan.blogspot.com/2010/05/michael-bryant-darcy-sheppard-incident.html
Thursday, May 27, 2010. Michael Bryant - Darcy Sheppard Incident Follow-up. I was out of town on Tuesday, so I missed this bit of news. Seems the charges against former Attorney General Michael Bryant were dropped when the prosecution decided it had no reasonable chance of conviction. See, back in September of aught-nine, I posted this. But here are some highlights:. He cut in front of Bryant's car at a light, passing on the driver's side. Bryant did not, as the video suggested to many, deliberately lurc...
