Thursday, January 29, 2015. 12 Apps That Improve My Life. That being said, let's get into the details. This has to go at the top of the list. The amount of mental clarity I get from doing 750 Words is unparalleled. 750 Words is a clean and straightforward website where you simply go write on a blank page every day. It's based on the idea of "morning pages", where you write three pages in the morning to clear your head - 750 words is roughly 3 pages. I don't know. I tried that but it's not the same...

Anecdotal Chunks: August 2012

http://anecdotalchunks.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Except in rare, pensive moments, I can't believe Summer Project's over. The project's participants are scattered across America (mostly in California and the Midwest). I'm in Illinois, at Danny's house in Hinsdale. We're not living in a ramshackle, jam-packed house with a hundred college students anymore. We're not spending our evenings on a crowded boardwalk trying to get bratty high school kids to talk about Jesus with us. I'm not working at Rite Aid (ever again). Everyone sto...

Anecdotal Chunks: March 2012

http://anecdotalchunks.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 17, 2012. So I feel like I should update this blog again. But the thing is, I got to where I couldn't even update last time because I started raising the bar so much that it was a four hour endeavor to get a post up. So I'm going to massively underachieve now and then hopefully the benefits will dramatically outweigh the costs of doing a blogpost and then all the sudden this is going to be a daily blog. It's going to be eight days - seven, tomorrow morning. We drive to Panama City Beach t...

Anecdotal Chunks: June 2012

http://anecdotalchunks.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 16, 2012. I Am A Robot (and I like it). I had my first shift at Rite Aid today. It was an 8 hour day. I had to get there at 8am, which is 2 hours earlier than the earliest I had woken up on project before this morning. I began by doing paperwork and then CBTs, which are Computer Based Trainings. I did about an hour and a half of CBTs, which is apparently small potatoes compared to some later CBTs but that was enough to get me well bored. If no: "Would you like to sign up for one? This was ...

Anecdotal Chunks: Ocean City

http://anecdotalchunks.blogspot.com/p/ocean-city_23.html

In the summer of 2012 I was in Ocean City, New Jersey, on a missions trip-ish with Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ). What does 'missions trip-ish' mean? Here's the first blog post. And here's another post. About my pre-Ocean City friend-making woes. Work can be a little monotonous. In a good way! A little mid-summer processing. There's been a first time. A second to think as the summer winds down. The summer a few days afterward. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Tuesday, May 29, 2012. The People of Dillo Day. For those that don't know, Dillo Day is a day in Northwestern's Spring quarter - the last Saturday before Reading Week - where the university brings in a bunch of bands and sets up a bunch of stuff next to the lake and everyone on campus hangs out and eats food and gets phenomenally, mind-blowingly drunk. It has been described as the one day we act like a state school. These cats are a rare breed. They actually only enjoy Dillo for the music. They'v...Other...

Stop and Take a Breath: November 2012

http://ashgora.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Stop and Take a Breath. Just clearing out my head. Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Note: some of this will be written in Spanish because of the connections. I will translate it in parentheses, even though it sounds better in Spanish.). While it's perhaps not the greatest analogy and perhaps not the best situation, I was hit with the realization yesterday of how much bachata. There's a song that Jesús Adrián Romero does called " Pegado a Ti. Stuck to You) that completely relates to this theme. Basically...

Stop and Take a Breath: December 2012

http://ashgora.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Stop and Take a Breath. Just clearing out my head. Monday, December 24, 2012. Perhaps not on December 25, but still it happened. Perhaps not with Mary riding into Bethlehem on a mule and pausing at different homes, taking her time to ask every single person if they could spare a room for the night, but it still happened. Perhaps not with exactly three wise men or los tres reyes magos. In fact, we tend to glorify this event so. We forget that Mary could have begun to contract at any point during her arriv...

Daniel Russell: Story

http://danieljrussell.blogspot.com/2013/12/story.html

My thoughts and prayers. Friday, December 20, 2013. What is your favorite memory with your parents? What was the event in high school that had the most significant impact on you? When was a hard time in your life? Pancakes and Stories was just the pinnacle of my interest in the idea of a story, though. Since high school, I have found this concept intriguing. Donald Miller wrote a book called A Million Miles in a Thousand Years. How will this affect my. Repeat the Sounding Joy! Repeat the Sounding Joy!

Daniel Russell: Every Effort

http://danieljrussell.blogspot.com/2013/07/every-effort.html

My thoughts and prayers. Tuesday, July 2, 2013. Wow, it's been a while since my last post.). If only I spent the same amount of time, energy, and effort in my own life, to present myself spotless to God! So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless, and at peace with him." 2 Peter 3:14. Daniel Russell: February 2013

http://danieljrussell.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

My thoughts and prayers. Wednesday, February 13, 2013. As I walk down the street, the sun is shining and the snow is melting. It is a beautiful day. Sin is heavy on my heart, though. Its deceit rearing its head. I am happy. I am satisfied with the day, the weather. However, something much deeper lingers within me, and I cannot enjoy it. Sin grieves my soul, sucking the joy out of me. As I stare at the sun through the trees, I am unable to enjoy the beauty. A God who gives me the freedom to feel forgiven.

Daniel Russell: May 2012

http://danieljrussell.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

My thoughts and prayers. Thursday, May 31, 2012. If God is faithful, all of his promises must be true. If all of his promises are true, then everything that happens to those that love Him and have been called according to His purpose are for their good. If this is true, then there is absolutely zero reason to worry. But the problem is we don't believe this. Monday, May 21, 2012. Why I'm Getting Baptized. Why am I getting baptized at all? First, a preface to what I believe about baptism:. As the people th...

My thoughts and prayers. Thursday, February 26, 2015. The Voices of Fear. I've been reading a book by a guy named Jon Acuff. It's called Start: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average, and Do Work That Matters. Acuff is a Christian (you may know his name from the Stuff Christians Like blog/book), but this book isn't a Christian book. It's in the Business/Motivational/Self-Improvement section on Amazon, but since he is a Christian, I wanted to hear his thoughts on doing work that matters. The beautiful thi...

My thoughts and prayers. Monday, March 2, 2015. Hope For The Present. Or something along those lines. But that one line ate at me. I kept thinking about it. Is that the message my posts were sending across? That there is only hope down the road, as long as God decides to reveal it to us? If God has written us awesome stories, it means we are living in the middle of them right now. Let me explain with two very different stories. Were these experiences failures? I am a firm believer that the answer is no.
