If you want to find a community of people with opinions fiercely held and dizzyingly diverse, you can't do better than the Anglican Communion. Sadly not due to grace or beauty. But because I always appeared calm and in control, regardless of how much my legs were flapping wildly underwater. I can appear unruffled in most situations, regardless of how I feel. I can hide annoyance and distress when diplomacy so requires. But is this a good thing? Links to this post.

Doubtless somebody is trying to tell me something. Hermits: caves; brown sackcloth; bad teeth and temper; crazy hair (yep, somebody is definitely trying to tell me something.) The public image isn't great. The word hermit refers to a person 'of the desert'; a hermit today is defined (at least, by Catholic practitioners) as a person who chooses.
