AEP's patients are referred in one of 2 ways:. These patients contact AEP at (501) 227-5061 and schedule an appointment. You will need to obtain the following information from your primary care physician: history and physical information, EEG/MRI/CT (if conducted within the past year), and your last clinic note. Fax #(501)227-5234. You should note, some insurance companies may require a referral from your primary care physician before receiving the types of specialized services we provide.

Arkansas Epilepsy Program Services. EEG remains the most important test for studying electrical brain activity. It is used in evaluating patients' suspected seizures by helping to determine precisely the patient's seizure type, and as part of testing for individuals undergoing presurgical evaluation. Through admittance to a local hospital, inpatient video monitoring further enables our staff to diagnose difficult cases, determine optimal medication regimens, and evaluate epilepsy surgery patients.

Reference: Epilepsy Foundation (visit epilepsyfoundation.org for more information). Seizures are symptoms of abnormal brain function. With the exception of very young children and the elderly, the cause of the abnormal brain function is usually not identifiable. Symptomatic seizures are called that when they can be linked to identifiable diseases or brain abnormalities. Some potential causes include, but are not limited to: brain malformations, brain tumors, infection, head trauma and genetic factors.
