Zai Holes | Reckless Farming
https://blingbeek.wordpress.com/2011/12/04/zai-holes
Howdy Partner →. December 4, 2011. At Ukulima farm, we have converted a plot of land to zai holes in order to research ways in which to improve upon the zai hole technique. The zai hole experiment is designed to test the effect composted manure and a legume intercrop has on overall sorghum grain production. Twitching | Reckless Farming
https://blingbeek.wordpress.com/2011/09/17/twitching
South Africa Research Project. September 17, 2011. The trees are budding and flowering, the insects are flying through the windows at night, and the birds are building their nests. Many new birds have been flying back to the area, which has made it a great time for twitching. If you are confused as to why I have been spending so much time twitching, the twitching I am referring to is the act of spotting a bird species. Go here. For more on twitching. Just click on the twitching album. To see the updates.

Conservation | Reckless Farming
https://blingbeek.wordpress.com/2011/09/27/conservation
September 27, 2011. Here is a great article. Featuring Howard Buffett and his quest to promote soil conservation. His foundation funds large scale agricultural research all the way down to research focused on the small scale farmer. ECHO’s research at Ukulima farm would fit more into the small scale end. Weed-whackers are about as high tech as we get; I’m not going to be driving the combine here at Ukulima any time soon. Thanks for passing on the link Andy Cotarelo! July 13, 2012. Local Impact of ECHO’s Research in South Africa. This past season, ECHO established a half hectare plot of moringa trees for use in future intercropping studies. Because of the moringa research plot at Kulinda Farm, our team of South African workers from the nearby town of Alma have learned how to care for the trees, make moringa leaf powder, and establish trees near their home. The nutritional value of moringa can be viewed here. Judelon tells the story here:. Today I sat across a table f...
