Saturday, August 1, 2015. Banks' Theorem of Stupid Rules. Not a stupid rule at all. Long before I started selling my art online, I sold it at festivals, art markets and gallery shows. Early on, I was seriously puzzled, and often annoyed, by the ridiculous rules of many art shows and festivals. No paintings that are still wet? No getting juried into a show and then subletting your space to someone who didn’t? Who would do that? Why would anyone have to even mention these things? Later, I coordinated a sho...

artologica: June 2015

http://artologica.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 29, 2015. If you want to sell on the internet, you have to be on the internet. A neighbor recently opened an etsy shop to sell her paintings. She asked me a bunch of questions about the process, which I was happy to answer. Then she asked me the essential question: "How do you get people to find you on the internet? We didn’t even get to the idea of submitting work to blogs. If you want to sell on the internet, you have to be on the internet. Well, if you have an online shop, the internet is...

Sunday, October 26, 2014. SfN 2014, Here I Come! I’ll be showing my work at this year’s Society for Neuroscience. Exhibit, located on the L Street bridge that links the two buildings of the convention center. We’re across from the SfN Information booth and near Hall D, where the special lectures are held. On Tuesday, Nov...

artologica: September 2014

http://artologica.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 30, 2014. I’m showing at two festivals this weekend: On Saturday, I’ll be at Art on the Avenue. In Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood. This is a big, great show with wonderful vendors and the weather promises to be gorgeous. Then on Sunday, I’m at the McLean Project for the Arts for MPA Artfest. It’s held at a park adjacent to the MPA’s gallery space, so you can peruse work from 50 fine art and craft vendors, then head inside to see Voyage of Discovery. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Katy's Notebook: March 2011

Monday, March 28, 2011. Painting through the Universe. Since I was very little, I have loved the solar system. I read as many books on the planets as I could find, and in the second grade I memorized the composition and size of each. When we went to the planetarium for a planet-themed show I thought I was the luckiest kid in the world; I'm pretty sure my face hurt afterwards from smiling the whole time. What better subject material? Take some time this week and draw/sketch/paint the Sun with me! Today is...

Katy's Notebook: February 2012

http://katysnotebook.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 2, 2012. Notes About Science Online 2012. This started out as a post about sketchnotes, but quickly evolved into some thoughts about Science Online. Just over two weeks ago I nervously embarked on my first experience with Science Online 2012. Little did I know that I would leave forever changed by a community that not only welcomed me, but accepted me as one of their own. Don't worry, Day 2 is coming! Now to give back. Links to this post. Katy's Notebook: Painting through the Universe: Mars

http://katysnotebook.blogspot.com/2012/04/painting-through-universe-mars.html

Sunday, April 29, 2012. Painting through the Universe: Mars. Despite how it may appear, I have not given up on Painting through the Universe! In fact, I have a new addition today. I have to admit, I felt quite a bit of pressure painting the Red Planet, but I think working my way through the panic phase of "Oh my gosh I've screwed it all up! Was worth it. This one, like most of the rest, has a black background, but I'm not sure if I'll continue that trend for the rest of them. Thoughts? Me likey the black.
