No Time to Read. Essays, literature, science commentary, analysis. Tag Archives: Alan Lightman. July 16, 2009. Nature journal has published a review. Of Italo Calvino’s. The book is a re-release, and Alan Lightman recommends the book. It is a set of short stories with cosmological themes. It is whimsical, in one case having a mollusc imagining it had a mustache. The anthology compared favorably with Primo Levy’s. I am now interested in reading. Thoughts: Neal Stephenson’s Seveneves. Mike Cane's Blog.

No Time to Read. Essays, literature, science commentary, analysis. February 2, 2014. The writing style is evocative of the best elliptical, modern writing! I would peg the book somewhere in between David Foster Wallace (and Roberto Bolano – loved. And Don DeLillo (I didn’t care much for. I read a really engaging book from Alan Sepinwall:. The Revolution Was Televised. I became aware of his work through Grantland. In other words, the Golden Age is synonymous with the novelisation of television. It is now ...

No Time to Read. Essays, literature, science commentary, analysis. August 27, 2008. This is my sixth blog. The others dealt with topics that are well-mined by everyone who blogs: a photojournal of my son (target audience: grandparents), contributions to other people’s, more well-known blogs (mostly of the tech variety), and personal observations (target audience: me). Thoughts: Neal Stephenson’s Seveneves. My blog title has proven true. Thoughts: The Up Side of Down. Book thoughts: City of Lost Dreams.

No Time to Read. Essays, literature, science commentary, analysis. Tag Archives: B.R. Myers. BR Myers reviews Jonathan Franzen. September 23, 2010. BR Myers, of The Atlantic, has written a scathing review. Of Freedom. I also recommend Myers A Reader’s Manifesto. He thinks Franzen writes about people of no consequence in pedestrian language. Eleanor Barkhorn, also of The Atlantic, collects a set. The Jodi Picoult flap. September 9, 2010. I came across a strange post. The specific thing I wanted to write a...

No Time to Read. Essays, literature, science commentary, analysis. Tag Archives: book thoughts. Thoughts on… Joel Dicker’s The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair. May 28, 2014. It is not. Joel Dicker’s novel,. The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair. Is an effective thriller. Its closest match, I think, is more a Law and Order episode, or even a video game, than a P.D. James novel. Naturally, this can be a good or bad thing, depending on what you are looking for in the read. And despite the lack of dr...
Bret Easton Ellis | No Time to Read

No Time to Read. Essays, literature, science commentary, analysis. Tag Archives: Bret Easton Ellis. October 7, 2010. By Bret Easton Ellis. My rating: 3 of 5 stars. View all my reviews. Wow The book is graphic; I am unsure as to the grand purpose behind the book. Ellis doesn’t write a sympathetic character. He writes about broken people who suffer further humiliation of spirit. They then choose to ignore the outrage or to perpetrate them. Clay, the antihero of. Responds by taking as much as he can. In the...

No Time to Read. Essays, literature, science commentary, analysis. November 26, 2013. Book thoughts: City of Lost Dreams. City of Lost Dreams. So yes, you might say I identify with Sarah Weston, the heroine of the novel – minus the fantastical elements. I don’t know any 400 year old dwarves. A piece of lushly written historical fiction that weaves a compelling cast of characters around real events, with just the faintest breath of magic. I mention this because, of course I read a fair amount of fun, genr...

Gainesville Glam | Arts & Entertainment in The Gator Nation
Arts and Entertainment in The Gator Nation. Christian Siriano to speak at UF! Let me be honest here and say that I am a little disappointed with the performers/speakers UF has brought to campus this year. As one of the largest universities in the nation, we should have the resources, funds and influence to attract some important and diverse people. But that doesn’t always seem to be the case. As a big fan of the TV show Project Runway, I am very happy with the new speaker engagement, Christian Siriano.
