Adventures of a professional pilot and flight instructor. Saturday, March 18, 2006. Landmark day yesterday. I had, thte previous day, flown out to Salisbury, Maryland to drop off the owner of the planes for a business meeting. Yesterday I went to pick him up, but had some time to spare, so I made it out to Accomack, VA (KMFV). That means that I have now landed at every paved, public airport in Virginia. One state down, 49 to go. Posted by also-known-as @ 1:04 PM. Wednesday, March 01, 2006. Flight Levels,...

Adventures of a professional pilot and flight instructor. Sunday, April 23, 2006. The Skies Are A Little Less Safe Now. Of the many people who have recently become private pilots, there is at least one more now, who perhaps shouldn't have. I refer to Mrs. Confusion. A couple weeks ago she got it. After flying with her for about half of the 150 hours it took her to get the license (that is about double the national average), I am confident that her anxiety about new situations is likely what will keep her...

Adventures of a professional pilot and flight instructor. Tuesday, April 25, 2006. Hurry up and wait. That's been the plan since we got here. We hurried up to Toronto, and they didn't start working on installing the equipment. That was then planned for 9am. we got breakfast, and waited. Then it was to be 10am. Then "we'll call when we are ready." Almost noon now, and still waiting. Posted by also-known-as @ 11:42 AM. Guys if you want to buy a aircraft simulation game for your pc! Adventures of a professional pilot and flight instructor. Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Keeping up with the Americanses. After 34 years of life in the US, I've become accustomed to observing the effects of stupid laws. I've spent just enough time in other countries (10 others, at last count), that I know we aren't unique in that respect. And it appears that our friendly neighbors in the Great White North are working to keep up with us. Posted by also-known-as @ 1:11 PM. Is there a reasoning behind this law?

Adventures of a professional pilot and flight instructor. Wednesday, August 02, 2006. The Long Flight Home. Evening of my last day in Afghanistan. I'm sitting in my dark bedroom, illuminated only by the somewhat harsh glow of the laptop screen. My light fixture hasn't been working for the last few days. After tinkering with it, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle, so I resigned to dealing primarily with solar illumination for the last couple days of my time here. Posted by also-known-as @ 12:23 PM.

Adventures of a professional pilot and flight instructor. Monday, February 20, 2006. Here is my new map, showing the states in which I've flown. We were hopeful to knock out Mississippi or Michigan on this trip, but it didn't work out. With any luck, this spring we will cover the remainder of the northeast. Adventures of a professional pilot and flight instructor. Friday, April 21, 2006. All that led me to start looking for a new job, preferably one that would give me multi-engine turbine experience, and ideally one that would put me where I really want to be in the longer term. After an unusually short time sending out resumes, the good-old-boy network did its job. The job is ultimately about flexibility. I have to be extremely flexible with my availability, but I have flexibility for my time while not...

Adventures of a professional pilot and flight instructor. Friday, June 30, 2006. My, How Things Change. So, a little update is in order. I had a little trouble dealing with this blog after the new job, because there is a limit to how much I can say about the specific jobs, or the equipment on board the plane. Some of our customers are competitors against each other, and much of the equipment is proprietary. So I couldn't do much about the blog. And it didn't happen, but this time in a much more grandiose...
