BirthNerd: Quickie book reviews
http://birthnerd.blogspot.com/2011/08/quickie-book-reviews.html
Links, information, and thoughts from a birth nerd and maybe-future-midwife. Thursday, August 11, 2011. Lots of very practical information for helping a woman in labor. For example, I'd heard of doulas doing "take charge routines," but I didn't completely understand what it was until I read the description in this book. Lots of great tips on positioning and many ways to support a woman in labor. Very helpful for doulas, too. Gotta be honest, I had to return this one to the library before I could finish it.

BirthNerd: April 2011
http://birthnerd.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Links, information, and thoughts from a birth nerd and maybe-future-midwife. Sunday, April 17, 2011. One example that springs to mind is Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga. In those books, the more advanced civilizations have created artificial wombs: the fetus is grown in a tank, and is decanted instead of being born. Everyone is very happy about this since, after all, it means no maternal mortality! So in one of these books, technology eventually reaches the point where they have these devices that...

Below are the 25 most recent journal entries recorded in the " RACHEL DIANNE. July 21st, 2014. Wow, three days til surgery. So, it's come around quite quickly really; three days til surgery. Hopefully I can try and capture the past week as accurate as possible. Thursday I went to Box Hill again for the procedure to get the dreaded permacath inserted. Of course it's good in the way I don't have to get pricked all the time but it is uncomfortable, not to mention the healing process takes a while. Everyone ...

Self-indulgent vanity and unabashed loathing. Sunday, January 15, 2012. So now I let myself sink further away from the razor sharp slices of light cutting the surface of water, their pin points of gold still seeking the plane of skin until I have collided with the silted bottom and not even the weightless aquatic dance of my outstretched fingers graze their shafts of illumination. Long Tall Animals: give me that old fashioned morphine
http://longtallanimals.blogspot.com/2009/09/give-me-that-old-fashioned-morphine.html
I'm Just Sayin's, All. Friday, September 18, 2009. Give me that old fashioned morphine. It is raining in Memphis and it has been all week. We go through a monsoon at least once a season it seems, which is generally OK. I remember the draught that threatened to dry up my mom's spring in 2007, and as a daughter of the rural South, I know that rain is a good thing, but this dump of precipitation is threatening the Cooper Young festival tomorrow. So for now, I say "RAIN! Labels: the deepdark future. It is in...
