Sehen and Hören. Transforms the huge disused gas storage tank in Augsburg, Germany, into an ever-changing soundscape. The hypnotic swing of the Foucault pendulum sets the beat for a very slow rendition of Bach's prelude in C. Chords build up note by note conducted by this gargantuan metronome. At a pace of one note every 17 seconds the piece runs about 10,000 seconds. That's how the project got it's name. All material 2008-2016 by J. Scriba.

Der historische Scheibengasbehälter befindet sich auf dem Gelände des ehemaligen Gaswerks im Augsburger Stadtteil Oberhausen.

Sehen and Hören. Als Klangerzeuger dienen 58 Orgelpfeifen, die rings um die zentrale Plattform im Strebenwerk des Gaskessels aufgestellt sind. In zehn Gruppen stehen die Pfeifen in jedem zweiten Feld der Stahlträgerkonstruktion. Verankert in eigenen Stahlrohrrahmen, die wiederum mit den Streben des Behälterdeckels verbunden sind, bilden die Pfeifengruppen einen neuen architektonischen Akzent im Behälter. Forced into complacency they do not seem to notice the discrepancy between their inability and unwillingness to interact and their posing on some kind of stage exhibiting much more about their true self than they might want to reveal. Machines tend to be defined by their purpose. What if we could view their metal bodies as skins showing birthmarks and wrinkles? Look for the signs their makers left, trace the grooves of wear, spot the echoes of their adventurous existence. Using the tools of portrait photography I try to reinterprete products of engineering as sculptures of mysterious origins. Techscapes Fine Art prints were shown in a special exhibition at the Deutsches Museum, Munich, from August 2008 through June 2009.
