My journey through coding bootcamp – halfway told, but I'm back with updates! I chose this coding bootcamp for several reasons, geared towards total novices, offers a scholarship for women along with other women-specific activities, I’ve been wanting to visit Austin, etc. Mostly though, I had a great connection with my interviewer and felt that this was the best choice for me. Living downtown is nice. I like being able to walk to school and Whole Foods. Feels like living on campus again!

My journey through coding bootcamp – halfway told, but I'm back with updates! The Road to Coding Ruby Begins. In April, my mom sent me an article about a “coding bootcamp,” a quick fix coding school working to close the gap between web developer demand and supply without the typical 4 year computer science degree. I was on my way to Coachella so I flagged it and went back to tying feathers in my hair. Starting a new journey. By thousands of companies around the world. Think computer science degree. Where...

Living in Color

Tuesday, March 4, 2014. What my grief looks like. I am taking a free on-line writing class, and one of our prompts was to write about what our grief would look like if we took it out of us and looked at it…it’s an interesting thing to think about. Grief – that black, slippery mucosal membrane that lines the inside of my stomach. I would do anything to get it out, vomit, wail, scream in the shower, smoke a pack of cigarettes. The more I try to stand on top of it, the more I fall off. She hits at the softe...

Menu: Roast, with a side of sarcasm. Stuff I like and you should too. 8220;Save the fuel. I’m coming for you.”. Jason Statham is a badass. Sure, he plays the same character in every movie, but in every movie, he’s just an ass-beating, bonafide badass. And I’m fine with that. Mark Wahlberg gets me going in a similar manner, too, but then you remember that he’s Marky Mark – “Good Vibrations,” and the badass factor gets turned down a notch. Haha. I still love you, Wahlberg. White people problems. PEACE.

Becca Shinn – Reader / Writer / Traveller

Reader / Writer / Traveller. August 14, 2017. While studying abroad in Europe last spring, my friends and I chose to spend our first long weekend of the semester in Germany, traveling from Berlin to Oranienburg to visit the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. From 1936 to 1945, thousands upon thousands of prisoners were forced into Sachsenhausen, brutally malnourished, mistreated, beaten, abused and slaughtered, their bodies stacked up in forgotten piles along the very paths through which we walked. These ...
