Beer and Victuals

Sunday, July 17, 2011. I was at home recently and after a conversation with my wife decided to make some Honeycomb, or cinder toffee as she calls it. I'd never made it before and as an Irish person that closest you're going to get to this is a Crunchie bar unless you had someone to make it for you as a kid. Cinder Toffee in chocolate. 1/2 tbsp bicarb of soda. Chocolate, I used lidl dark for the adults and some lidl milk chocolate for my three year old. If you overwork it once it's had the bicarb added yo...

Beer and Victuals: Tiger Blood Stout - BIAB

http://beernvictuals.blogspot.com/2011/06/tiger-blood-stout-biab.html

Friday, June 10, 2011. Tiger Blood Stout - BIAB. I knocked this stout up on the 27/02/11 it turned out absolutely delicious and will be my house stout, it's all gone now but I'm making more very shortly. I was on a kick doing Charlie Sheen themed beers at the time ;). I'll shortly do a full picture tutorial of this stout being made and also showing the whole BIAB technique. It was my first time to use liquid yeast apart from harvested dry stuff. Marynka 60g 60 mins. Marynka 60g 30 Mins. Mashed in at 69c.

Beer and Victuals: June 2011

http://beernvictuals.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 11, 2011. Using liquid yeasts, making starters and cultivating yeast from a bottle. When you get into brewing a bit you start to realise the importance that yeast plays in the process of producing good beer. It seems obvious but when you start with kits you're presented with a simple packet of dried yeast to pitch on top of your mixed up wort and away it goes, no calculations, no messing with starters, just pitch it and go. Some people will talk about acid washing.it's a last ditch att...

Beer and Victuals: Filet steak as inexpensive as it gets.

http://beernvictuals.blogspot.com/2011/06/filet-steak-as-inexpensive-as-it-gets.html

Friday, June 10, 2011. Filet steak as inexpensive as it gets. I like filet steak, as does my wife, problem is that it's normally very expensive stuff. The last time I looked in the supermarket, two smallish pieces of filet were €15, which is a bit too much for a dinner. I get large whole filets from a local butchers trade counter in the Rosemount Industrial estate. They charge €17/kg as the whole piece. Wikipedia entry on beef tenderloin. Wiki on Filet Mignon. I tend to cut off the muscle that sits at th...

Beer and Victuals: Curry night.

http://beernvictuals.blogspot.com/2010/04/curry-night.html

Sunday, April 11, 2010. Indian food is all about the correct use of spices, not everything has to be hot with chili, but everything is generally well spiced. I have the spices I use most in my Masala Dabba (spice box). In the box I have mustard seed, cumin, garam masala, onion seed, ginger powder, coriander seeds and turmeric. I have lots more spices in a box under the counter, but these are my main ones and the ones I keep on my counter top. This is the base for most Indian curries:. 2 tsp minced ginger.

The craic and creations of a vaguely crafty mammy. Tuesday 3 November 2009. Another of this week's projects:. He's a stash-busting xmas present for The Boy. Made to this pattern. He was really easy. I'm contemplating unpicking his tail though, I want to make him into a rattlesnake by adding a rattle bead, if I can find one that is, they don't seem to be easy to find :( . Mam-made: November 2009

http://mam-made.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

The craic and creations of a vaguely crafty mammy. Friday 27 November 2009. One more xmas present down, lots more to go. I everntually got The Boy's INTG tshirt done. Pics aren't great :(. Friday 20 November 2009. I eventually got Peppa finished. I backed the entire area of the t-shirt with interfacing, to stiffen it up and stop it stretching, and then used an embroidery hoop to keep everything nice and taut. It worked a treat. I'm so chuffed with how she turned out! Wednesday 11 November 2009. I started...

Mam-made: The longies really did get finished eventually, as did my xmas presents!

http://mam-made.blogspot.com/2010/04/longies-really-did-get-finished.html

The craic and creations of a vaguely crafty mammy. Sunday 11 April 2010. The longies really did get finished eventually, as did my xmas presents! Since I'm back blogging again, I might as well update on what I have actually gotten done over the last few months. The longies, of which I'd only done the waistband last time I posted eventually got finished in January. I really love how they colours pooled differently in the different sections. These longies were my first attempt at Kitchener stitch.

Mam-made: Pretty, pretty...

http://mam-made.blogspot.com/2009/11/pretty-pretty.html

The craic and creations of a vaguely crafty mammy. Monday 2 November 2009. I had a go at kool-aid dyeing some wool for the first time this week. I had the wool and kool-aid sitting there for about 3 days before I finally built up the courage to actually go for it, I kept thinking "Eek, what if it looks horrible? But in the end I just bit the bullet and did it. I am absolutely delighted with the results. I started out with 3 of these beauties:. Labels: Cloth Nappy Tree. Friday, 06 November, 2009.

Mam-made: Hi!

http://mam-made.blogspot.com/2009/11/hi.html

The craic and creations of a vaguely crafty mammy. Monday 2 November 2009. Well, I suppose I should do the whole introduction thing. I'm a SAHM to a lovely little 2 year old boy. I've always loved crafty things, and started making handmade greetings cards ages ago. I decided to re-learn (after learning at school) to knit and crochet when The Boy was a few months old and really enjoyed it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Yay, the postmans been. Reviews by Brew Type. Saturday, November 14, 2015. New Holland Dragon's Milk Reserve with Toasted Chilies. Today, I have New Holland Dragon's Milk Reserve with Toasted Chilies. Though unfortunately I wasn't able to find the other three. In short, maybe New Holland is a little better than I've regarded them recently and it's time to give standard issue Dragon's Milk another shot. Keep your eye open for the Dragon's Milk Reserve bottlings, if you can find them! Thursday, November 12, 2015.
