Dorrie Gilbert and Saumitra Mathur’s creative collaboration began in 2007 in New York City. Dorrie had completed her first draft of. In the form of a pop up book, but wasn’t sure how to begin navigating the world of publishing. A mutual friend suggested meeting with Saumitra who was working for Scholastic Books at the time. His immediate enthusiasm and support for the book is what set in motion their eventual co-production of the film.
