Cornell Biology Blogs: Jessica W

Cornell Biology Blogs: Jessica W. Thursday, June 5, 2008. Where the buffalo roam. I'm in Jackson, Wyoming. Actually in the Teton Co. Public Library. Camping in the Grand Teton National Forest and I'm quickly running out of internet time. My digital camera needs servicing at Olympus because Moab dust got in the lens so I have no new photos. I'll post more tomorrow. There are herds of buffalo grazing by the campsite. How cool! Friday, May 23, 2008. I left Ithaca, NY early Sunday morning with Rob Raguso.

Cornell Biology Blogs: Jessica W: desert dust

http://bioblogjessicaw.blogspot.com/2008/05/desert-dust.html

Cornell Biology Blogs: Jessica W. Friday, May 23, 2008. I've been in Moab, Utah for five days now. One shower and five dusty nights' sleep later I am adjusting to life in the field. I left Ithaca, NY early Sunday morning with Rob Raguso. This photo is a bit upriver from our campsite. You can see the la Sal mountains in the background. This road is Highway 128 and it takes you into Moab. Arches National Park is a fifteen minute drive away. We met up with the rest of the team, said our hellos, and caught u...

Cornell Biology Blogs: Jessica: The Most Beautiful Animals, and an Incredible Opportunity

http://bioblogjessica.blogspot.com/2008/07/most-beautiful-animals-and-incredible.html

Cornell Biology Blogs: Jessica. Friday, July 25, 2008. The Most Beautiful Animals, and an Incredible Opportunity. Sunday, June 29, 2008. We used two different methods, each one in each vehicle. However, due to some severe lack of foresight, we realized just a little too late that we had never completely agreed on methods. As a result, the students in each van conducted the study in a slightly different manner. We would later have a very, um, fun. However, the highlight of the night was seeing an AARDVARK.

Cornell Biology Blogs: Jessica: Bee lab!

http://bioblogjessica.blogspot.com/2008/09/bee-lab.html

Cornell Biology Blogs: Jessica. Saturday, September 20, 2008. This post is about something completely different from my previous posts - it is about honey bees! I am currently taking a class called "Entomology 2600: Biology of the Honey Bee" and its accompanying lab class, "Entomology 2640: Practical Beekeeping." I've been interested in this class since I was a freshman, but it is only offered in alternate years and I never seemed to be able to take it until now. What fun! Wearing our bee veils.

http://bioblogphiliag.blogspot.com/2008/07/program-is-ending-is-about-two-weeks.html

Cornell Biology Blogs: Philia G. Saturday, July 19, 2008. I recently got three different lines of flies(it took some time to create the mutant lines with the required markers, although I wasn't the one making them), which all have lacZ labelling the product of puckered (puc). Which gives a measure of the Jun kinase (JNK) activity. One line is a wild-type control, and the other two are different alleles of raw. Mutants seem to have upregulated expression of puc. The mutant is really messed up because raw.

Cornell Biology Blogs: Ben. Saturday, July 19, 2008. I should apologize for the small number of blogs written. I was unable to sign into my account from Kenya, making it extremely difficult to get blogs posted. I got home last weekend in a state of extreme jetlag. I fell asleep around seven that first night back. Monday, July 7, 2008. Overall, we are all dreading leaving Kenya and most of us will try to come back again someday. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Cornell Biology Blogs: Kenya 2008: It's not all about spiders...

http://kenyaspiders.blogspot.com/2008/05/its-not-all-about-spiders.html

Cornell Biology Blogs: Kenya 2008. I hope to provide the perspective of an excited entomologist's journey to Kenya with Cornell's BioEE 265. Sunday, May 18, 2008. It's not all about spiders. In terms of arachnid diversity in the desert, scorpions are second to none. Kenya is known to be home to 24 scorpion species in three different families. I'm getting excited to find some of these in the wild! Scorpions glow under blacklight. Few scorpions are dangerous, red denotes species to be careful around).

We spent nearly the whole morning out on a game drive in Mpala. I would like to brag here and say that I found the leopard! After lunch, we started our first project: A study of elephant damage on Acacia. Friday, June 27, 2008 Day 3. In the morning, we collected data for our study on elephant damage to Acacia. The Bioblogist

Science from the bench, press and media, plus a little bit of silliness. Tuesday, 9 June 2015. Linking this mainly because of the quote "I am going to science the Sh*t out of this". Definitely need to try and use that one at work today. I'd probably urge people who haven't read the book to avoid the trailer though as it essentially spells out the entire plot in 3 minutes. I'll get around to doing a review of the book as it has Biology sh*t in it. Tuesday, June 09, 2015. Tuesday, 12 May 2015. These are ju...

Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Transforming E. Coli Cells With Fluorescent Plasmid Protein. Bacterial transformation is of central importance in molecular biology. In order for transformation to occur, the bacteria must be in a state known as 'competency'; which is when the cell is made permeable to DNA. In this lab, we will be able to transform E. Coli which normally doesn't transform on its own with the aid of a green fluorescent protein plasmid called pFluoroGreen. Amount of green fluorescent proteins.
