Finally, an update! Asymp; 9 Comments. Wow, it’s been 8 months since I posted! So much has happened since the last post, I don’t even know where to start. Guidelines for Barefoot Language Learning: An Approach Through Involvement and Independence. As well as his. Becoming Bilingual: A Guide to Language Learning. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Paleography | ChineseQuest

Asymp; 2 Comments. I met a guy last week that does research in early Chinese excavated texts. You know, really old stuff. Just when I though I had figured out what I wanted to do in grad school, this guy comes along and screws it all up. But then this guy comes along who’s working on his PhD, and he’s doing this research that’s a ridiculous kind of awesome. Rewriting Early Chinese Texts. More earnestly when I had them in my hands. But there will be time for that later. Larr; Previous post. You are commen...

Outlier Linguistic Solutions | ChineseQuest

Asymp; 6 Comments. Once again, I’ve been inactive here for a while. I moved to Tokyo two weeks ago and I’m hard at work learning Japanese and trying to maintain or improve my Chinese (I’ll be posting later on how I’m doing that while in Japan, I promise). But I have another, very exciting piece of news to announce. Instead of Qing history. He helped me through the process of applying for the MA program. And Asking the experts: How to learn Chinese grammar. So I joined them. We’re called Outlier...So that...

Pen Scanners | ChineseQuest
https://chinesequest.wordpress.com/2013/06/18/pen-scanners
Asymp; 6 Comments. I guess first I should say that I’m not in any way affiliated with PenPower or any other company. I’m just writing this because I bought one of these things and I can already see it’s going to be tremendously helpful. Recommend getting one of those pen scanners by PenPower or the like. I ordered their WorldPenScan BT yesterday and it arrived today. The BT stands for Bluetooth, and I paid a little more for that functionality (4990NT vs 3990 for a USB-only pen). The crops are doing well.

This is the new ChineseQuest. The old one was here. But it’s bleedin’ demised. If you’d like to get in touch with me, please either contact me through Twitter or leave a comment on one of my posts and I’ll email you (your email address will be visible on my end). I’m a bit skittish about posting my own contact info on a site that I have taken so little time to even figure out. There's more like it on our blog: blog.outlier-linguistics.com. Yeah, doesn't seem to be. @ fluentchinese.

Keeping up with Chinese in Japan | ChineseQuest
https://chinesequest.wordpress.com/2014/10/02/keeping-up-with-chinese-in-japan
Keeping up with Chinese in Japan. Asymp; 1 Comment. Well, I promised I’d keep up with blogging here. I’m now quite settled into my new place in Tokyo. I’ve been here just over two months. My Japanese is coming along reasonably well considering my work at Outlier. Is essentially full-time (though I work from home, so I have a lot of flexibility). My Chinese doesn’t seem to have stagnated, but I’m not putting as much time into it as I would like. Here’s what I’m doing:. Larr; Previous post. On GlossikaR...

Asymp; 8 Comments. Oh yeah, I worked smart too. SRS, basing my study on the ICLP program, reading as much as I could about how other people have successfully learned languages, etc. But no matter how smart you work, you still have to work. Last month the hard work and tenacity finally paid off. After 1 year and 8 months in Taiwan, I got a job as a translator. Chinese has gone from being a hobby that I hoped would be useful one day to now being a marketable skill. Now is when the real learning can begin.

On Input | ChineseQuest
https://chinesequest.wordpress.com/2013/05/22/on-input
Asymp; 10 Comments. I noticed a big sudden spike in visitors yesterday. Turns out Khatzumoto. That’s a nice coincidence, because I came here to write about the importance of large quantities of input. I’ve been looking for “The Fix” recently. The thing that I can do that will allow me to do things in Chinese more like native speakers do them. Grammar, phrasing, word choice, accuracy, the whole nine yards. I’ve tried tons of things. Except one, until recently. It isn’t my pronunciation, my tones, or...

For those in the former category, the first thing you need to know about is Pleco (review forthcoming). The rest will be added later. Thoughts on “Cool Stuff”. December 15, 2011 at 4:39 pm. I enjoy reading your blog. Though I can’t find a RSS feed button, so I can get updates. Cheers Jono1001. December 15, 2011 at 4:55 pm. Noted I’ll try to remember to figure out how to add one when I get some time. Meanwhile, you can subscribe to posts via email if you want. October 17, 2012 at 12:47 am. Yeah, doesn...
