Steve Marple's blog: Cloud detector: a review of progress so far

http://blog.stevemarple.co.uk/2013/10/cloud-detector-review-of-progress-so-far.html

Saturday, October 19, 2013. Cloud detector: a review of progress so far. My cloud detector has been running outside for over 5 months now. Overall I'm very pleased with how it works. The battery-powered hardware is based on the AuroraWatchNet magnetometer. Design, which uses my own Calunium. I started off using the 90° field-of-view version of the non-contact IR thermometer but later switched to theMLX90614ESF-DCH-000-TU-ND variant which features a 12° field of view. Its greater height mean...The plan is...

Steve Marple's blog: UART-USB converter for mixed 3.3V/5V operation

http://blog.stevemarple.co.uk/2013/01/uart-usb-converter-for-mixed-33v5v.html

Thursday, January 10, 2013. UART-USB converter for mixed 3.3V/5V operation. For some future projects I have in mind I would like to add a USB interface to my Calunium. Development board, rather than using the Sparkfun FTDI basic breakout. Board that I have been using. One of the key features is that it should work seamlessly with the jumper-selectable 3.3V or 5V operation offered by Calunium v2. Which is most easily accomplished by a self-powered design; auto-reset. Is needed to select the external cryst...

Steve Marple's blog: Performance comparison of power over ethernet (PoE) and battery magnetometers

http://blog.stevemarple.co.uk/2014/02/performance-comparison-of-power-over.html

Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Performance comparison of power over ethernet (PoE) and battery magnetometers. Requires the microcontroller to operate from 5V. Operating voltage is easily changed on my Calunium. Below is a plot comparing one hour of data from the new power over ethernet system with two of the existing battery-powered wireless models already in operation. The PoE system is on the same site as LAN1 but located nearer parked cars. I chose this period because it was free of man-made di...Let's...

http://blog.stevemarple.co.uk/2014/03/power-over-ethernet-poe-magnetometer.html

Monday, March 24, 2014. Power over ethernet (PoE) magnetometer and cloud detector. Combined magnetometer and cloud detector. To improve the performance and stability of the AuroraWatchNet magnetometers I recently began experimenting with a power over ethernet (PoE) version. With restrictions on power consumption lifted considerable performance improvements are possible. Combined magnetometer and cloud detector hardware. And fluxgate magnetometer (bottom right). Click for annotated version. Arduino clone&...

August 21, 2016. Circular Saw to Table Saw Conversion. October 19, 2013. Corded circular saws are a dime-a-dozen at any old thrift store, yet table saws are a bit more of a costly investment — have you ever wondered if you could just make one out of a circular saw? Matthias Wandel] did, and he just so happens to be very good at woodworking! If you’re interested in making one yourself, he does a very thorough job explaining the process in his video — check it out after the break! 8212; remember that?

Calunium: Atmega1284 Arduino clone | sui

https://sui77.wordpress.com/2012/06/05/calunium-atmega1284-arduino-clone

Calunium: Atmega1284 Arduino clone. A lot of us know this issue. The Atmega328 as used by Arduino Uno has too less SRAM, the Atmega2560 as used by Aruino Mega is not availabe as a DIP package and thus not really handy for do it yourself soldering. This is where the Atmega1284 comes into play. It is available as a DIP-40 package has twice as much RAM as the 2560 and costs only about 7 EUR. I’ve ordered a couple of these boards manufactured by iteadstudio. Trackback ( 0 ). Kommentare ( 0 ). ManfredH zu Low...

It’s been over half a year since making the first announcement of ardumote. Now I’m actually using it myself at home to open doors and switching lights🙂. Now let’s have a look in detail. There is also a 433MHz transmitter and receiver connected, which allows me to use a simple remote as input device and operate low cost RC power sockets. I use a arduino mega cause the RCSwitch didn’t run together with the ardumote arduino library. On top of IRC. I’ve chosen IRC because it’s also very sim...Of course goo...

The Journey

Life is a journey - this is mine. Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Of all the things. Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.". When I was in my early 20's and starting in the corporate world, a forty-something co-worker had a poster with that quote on it. I thought it was funny in a tounge-in-cheek kind of way. I'm not laughing anymore. I feel like I've regressed a number of years and have all but lost the ability to think. I recall that saying now and can only nod in reluctant acceptance.
