DD-WRT is the way, the truth, and the light. Every so often I look at DD-WRT or similar firmware replacements, but unfortuantly they don't support my router (a Netgear DG834Gv3). It needs replacing anyway as there's compatability issues with the ADSL chipset in it, so maybe next time I'll get a DD-WRT-compatible one. Any recommendations? Oh, aye. The Asus RT-N16. It is the best thing since sliced bread, especially for routing. Would probably make a lousy sandwich, though.
