Krissy Dietrich Gallagher’s blog about life, luck, love, parenting, writing, and, of course, cancer. May 11, 2015 in Austin's cancer. It all started on a swelteringly hot Monday in July. Almost eight years ago. Our boys were 3 1/2 and ten months old. We lived in a different house. We were different people. Because it changed everything. No, that doesn’t come close to describing what it did to our lives. Waylaid. Ambushed. Flipped over, thrown around, and knocked senseless. At the same time. But what he d...

Krissy Dietrich Gallagher’s blog about life, luck, love, parenting, writing, and, of course, cancer. Here are some of the interesting cancer sites that I use, either to do research or raise money or find inspiration. University Hospitals of Cleveland. This is the hospital where Austin has received all of his treatment, which happens to be located a mere mile-and-a-half from our house. When he’s in-patient, he stays at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. St Baldrick’s Foundation. Before . . . My broth...

I’d love to hear from you! September 11, 2007.

Krissy Dietrich Gallagher’s blog about life, luck, love, parenting, writing, and, of course, cancer. How it all began. July 30, 2015 in Austin's cancer. How on earth did we end up here? That’s what was running through my subconscious as I attempted to fall asleep in a hospital room on Monday, July 30, 2007, with Austin in a crib beside me. How did this happen? An excerpt from that, you know, “book” of mine. I was still calm but not as calm as I’d been two minutes before. Proof that I was indeed not worri...

Krissy Dietrich Gallagher’s blog about life, luck, love, parenting, writing, and, of course, cancer. Since I know the ins and outs of this blog better than anyone (I think! And since some of you are rather, um, less technologically advanced than others, I’ve realized I should provide some tips on how to navigate these uncharted waters. Postings (which a City Council Member told me were “the talk of the town”! Maybe I should suggest to the WordPress people that they install a “Like” button too! 8221; If y...

https://krissygallagher.wordpress.com/austins-story
Krissy Dietrich Gallagher’s blog about life, luck, love, parenting, writing, and, of course, cancer. Everything changes on July 30, 2007. A once ordinary life, a once happy family of four, is flipped upside down with the discovery of six tumors on the kidneys of my ten-month-old son Austin. The devastating reality slowly penetrates our child is sick, our child has. And then suddenly, everything changes again, from normal-cancer-bad to way. Austin's first birthday, September 2007. And then it came back.

Our reality | The Luckiest

Krissy Dietrich Gallagher’s blog about life, luck, love, parenting, writing, and, of course, cancer. April 30, 2015 in Education. Last year at an a cappella competition. I write blog posts about how “nice”. My boys’ peers are and drone on about how much science and math content they’ve learned. But you know what? This isn’t necessary. Or it shouldn’t be. But bear with me a bit because it’s actually fascinating, in a hard-to-believe-that-could-possibly-be-true kind of way. Please join me on Tuesday, May 5...
