I’m Better Because of You, Ethiopia « An Aggie In Ethiopia

https://anaggieinethiopia.wordpress.com/2013/11/20/im-better-because-of-you-ethiopia

An Aggie In Ethiopia. I’m Better Because of You, Ethiopia. The cool wind rustles the fragrant eucalyptus leaves as I slowly make my way down the hill one last time. The kids see my overly full bag and ask where I’m going. When I say America, they ask how long I’ll be gone. Kisab macherasha, I say. Forever. A flood of emotion pours over me like a long overdue kerempti. As the bus pulls away from Atsbi, I think back over the tumultuous past two years. What have I given Ethiopia? What has Ethiopia given me?

An Aggie In Ethiopia. Newer posts →. The Tip of the Indian Iceberg. Once again, I boarded a train, bound this time for Mumbai. I didn’t have plans or a hotel or even much time to explore the city, but what I found, I loved. I visited the slums with new friends where we saw rats as large as cats and played cricket with the kids. Later we did a little shopping and caught a Bollywood film before I caught my flight home to Ethiopia. During our six months of planning, we wrote a grant, planned an $8,000 budge...

Unchangeable Ethiopia, Part II « An Aggie In Ethiopia

An Aggie In Ethiopia. Unchangeable Ethiopia, Part II. Those of you who keep up with my posts probably understand the love-hate relationship I have with Ethiopia. Some days I think I’m living it up in a beautiful, sincere, vivacious country; Other days I can’t leave my house for fear of being swallowed up by the God forsaken hellhole that exists outside my door. Thursday was one of the hellhole days. In my last Unchangeable Ethiopia. The fathers of your daughters? Because I certainly never will. We are al...

The Last Weeks « An Aggie In Ethiopia

https://anaggieinethiopia.wordpress.com/2013/11/09/the-last-weeks

An Aggie In Ethiopia. As my weeks in Ethiopia are dwindling, I’ve been wrapping up projects, enjoying time with friends and doing a lot of cleaning, organizing and packing. Slowly but surely my house is returning to the prison-like cell it was before I made it a home. Each day another person asks when I’m leaving and each day it sinks in a little more that I’m going home so soon. Stay tuned for my final post! This entry was posted in Peace Corps. Unchangeable Ethiopia « An Aggie In Ethiopia

https://anaggieinethiopia.wordpress.com/2013/05/15/unchangeable-ethiopia

An Aggie In Ethiopia. Today I’m mad at Ethiopia. I’m frustrated that citizens care so little about the future of their country. People say they want change, they want Ethiopia to be like America, they want a better future for their children, but they refuse to correct even the simplest of bad habits. So the guard is finished, then? The very same guard who threatened a student’s life with a deadly weapon and slaps the butts of the females that pass through his gate. Birthday Bucket List « An Aggie In Ethiopia

https://anaggieinethiopia.wordpress.com/2013/10/15/birthday-bucket-list

An Aggie In Ethiopia. Another year of my life has indeed come and gone, and what a year twenty-four has been. For my twenty-fifth birthday I decided it would be a good idea to finally write an official bucket list, so for the past year I’ve been jotting things down as I think of them. Recently I narrowed it down to the following eleven. Dive the Great Barrier Reef. Oh, the urgency! Take a floral design class. Go bungee jumping and/or skydiving. Go on a spur of the moment trip. Thailand, Cambodia, Laos an...

Et In Arcadia Ego. 8216;Mom’ Syndrome. October 13, 2011. So the other day, when I was taking a quick break at our opening Freshers’ Week event (a garden party and BBQ), I sat down with a beer and my friend (and fellow social secretary) Ulrike and we both suddenly realized that we felt like moms. So this post is really about appreciation. Appreciating all of the hard work that other people (especially parents, but everyone!
