Kevin's Reflections: November 2012
http://kevinsreflections.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 19, 2012. From a Monastery Cookbook. I bought many years ago a cookbook from a monastery that I visited with a group of seminary students for spiritual formation retreats. The cookbook is a collection of recipes from a Trappist Monastery. They are divided up by seasons. On a whim, I thought I would work my way through the cookbook. So, I turned to the Autumn section and went to the first recipe, called. It is a simple and tasty soup. 3 leeks (white part only). 1/2 head green cabbage.

Sunday, March 22, 2015. Dying to Live: A Reflection on John 12:20-33. For whatever reason, these Greeks go up to Philip instead of Jesus directly. Maybe they were being respectful. Or they weren’t sure if Jesus would see them or not. At any rate, they walk up to Philip and ask to speak with Jesus. Philip doesn’t say, “Of course, right this way! Why would you even want to keep something you hate? And Jesus is encouraging us to hate our lives? Teenagers will cry out, “I hate my life! Come, brothers and sis...

Kevin's Reflections: Look and Listen: A Reflection on Mark 9:2-9

Sunday, February 15, 2015. Look and Listen: A Reflection on Mark 9:2-9. Or maybe it was like when Moses came down from the mountain after getting the Ten Commandments, his face was glowing which was a distraction to the people, so he started wearing a veil until the glow went away. Does Jesus naturally glow and the disciples got to see what he really looks like? Was it a glimpse of what our resurrected bodies look like? Were they wearing name tags? Did Jesus address them by their names? Who is this Jesus?

That no unworthy person might creep into the ministry of the altar, or to the office of a priest. Italics mine) For that unworthy persons are sometimes ordained, not according to the will of God,. But according to human presumption. Labels: call to ministry. Tuesday, May 4, 2010. A great nugget from John Chrysostom, from his commentary on the Book of the Acts. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Kevin's Reflections: Purity in the Church: A Reflection on John 2:13-22
http://kevinsreflections.blogspot.com/2015/03/purity-in-church-reflection-on-john-213.html
Sunday, March 8, 2015. Purity in the Church: A Reflection on John 2:13-22. On the surface, the story we read from John 2 about Jesus chasing merchants and moneychangers out of the Temple and, when questioned as to why he thought he could do this, makes a cloaked prediction of his death and resurrection, which his disciples did not catch until after the fact. However, we can go deeper into this story. As Jesus entered his Father’s house, he took the opportunity to do a little spring cleaning himself...

Sunday, January 25, 2015. What Does Not Change: A Reflection Based on 1 Corinthians 7:29-31. Anyone who has been paying attention lately in the football world has been hearing all about deflated footballs. But there’s another story. What will Payton Manning do? Will he play one more season or will he retire? Of course, there is a life outside of the game. But I imagine for them that’s a hard thing to accept. That the world is the sphere. For the values and identity of Christians. So the trick is, in ever...

Kevin's Reflections: January 2014

Monday, January 20, 2014. Having a bigger picture. But I said, 'I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity'.[God] says, 'It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribe of Jacob and to restore the survivors of Israel; I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.'". What if I claimed the campus as my "House"? I would do ministry by walking around. Monday, January 13, 2014. A chance to start fresh?
