Engel (and Brownell) Blog: Valencia Oranges
http://eng-ell.blogspot.com/2009/02/valencia-oranges.html
Engel (and Brownell) Blog. Monday, February 09, 2009. Last weekend, Rafa took us to his family's citrus grove in Algemia - outside Valencia. We picked oranges, tangerines, and grapefruit. Hey, where do you think Valencia oranges come from . Valencia, California or Valencia, Spain? After we picked as many oranges and grapefruit as our many hands (and bags and shoping carts) could carry, we flew a kite in a nearby soccer field. They tasted like rotten lemons. Then, Sara's student gave us fresh oranges from...

Engel (and Brownell) Blog: December 2008
http://eng-ell.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Engel (and Brownell) Blog. Friday, December 26, 2008. After several late nights and a few missed excursions with the family, I finished writing evaluations for my students (in SPANISH). When I finished, I came up gasping for air . I had 2 weeks of vacation! Then, I got sick and I was in bed for 3 days. The last time I was in bed for more than 8 hours, it was because I was giving birth. We also made Christmas decorations and snowflakes (since there isn't any snow outside) and listened to Christmas music.

Engel (and Brownell) Blog: Sevilla for New Years
http://eng-ell.blogspot.com/2009/01/sevilla-for-new-years.html
Engel (and Brownell) Blog. Monday, January 19, 2009. Sevilla for New Years. We celebrated the New Year in Sevilla. We stayed in a GREAT hostel that was beautiful and had a friendly climate (and FREE internet access). It was an especially great place to hang out when it was raining outside. For New Year's Eve, we went to the city square. There wasn't a countdown so we shouted our own countdown (about a minute late). Notice: Yana and Maria were too embarrassed to shout the countdown. On Tuesday (April 22), I will begin the Camino de Santiago . a traditionally Catholic pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela where St. James is buried. Actually, there are many routes of the pilgrimage. I will be taking the French route. I will start at Roncesvalles (just inside Spain) and walk about 800 kilometers across northern Spain to Santiago. I love Spain and I love to see it close-up. Because I am here.

Engel (and Brownell) Blog. Thursday, October 30, 2008. What will tomorrow bring? A few nights ago when I got home, Maria told me that she needed her picture for the 6th grade class photo collage . the NEXT DAY! Hee hee. The next day? It was after 8 pm. I gasped. I don't know why. I thought I was over being surprised about these last-minute things. Typically, they work out just fine. There is a photo store nearby. I thought maybe they closed at 8:30 or 9, so we ran. Engel (and Brownell) Blog. Thursday, September 25, 2008. What do we do all day? Besides walking the kids back and forth, what do we do all day? I hate it when people ask us that question. Our lofty 2-year plan for Spain was to. The first year and. A few days ago in the kitchen, Matthew asked me, ". I answered, ". Maria sighed loudly, rolled her eyes, and exclaimed, "OH MY GOSH! Dad, you just asked Mom if. So, now, we'll have something to say when people ask, "What do you do all day? I LOVE my children...

Engel (and Brownell) Blog. Sunday, June 29, 2008. Long awaited, long anticipated . the Smiths came to visit! They could not have gotten here soon enough and they could not have stayed long enough. We were fortunate to be included in their cross-continental travels. They are friends but they feel like family. We're even thinking of moving in with them when we return to Evanston! Just kidding, Barbara. Catch your breath.). We smelled the roses on the way to the City of Arts and Sciences and had a picnic.
