Stephanie Fashion By Design: New from Nepal
http://stephaniefashionbydesign.blogspot.com/2015/05/new-from-nepal.html
Stephanie Fashion By Design. Thursday, 28 May 2015. A friend who was in Kathmandu during the earthquake is visiting and has been telling us of the horror and the scariness of the situation at that time. He tells of the buildings falling down and having to 'sleep' outdoors and feeling the constant tremors of the after shocks, and how the city emptied out as everyone went home to their villages to see the extent of the damage there. Our most recent shipment is in. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Coffee...

The Travelling Gardener: July 2015
http://thetravellinggardener.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 23 July 2015. After being back for 2 1/2 weeks it seems like I am making progress in my garden here in Ontario. From the weed infested bed above to weed free below with a few self sowns - parsley and lettuces mainly left in. Add a row of beans and peas that are growing at great rates. The pak choi and lettuce are doing well in their starter pots and I notice flowers on the tomato plant I bought. Lots and lots of rhubarb to enjoy. And lots of flowers to admire. Saturday, 11 July 2015. The rhubar...

The Travelling Gardener: Great expectations
http://thetravellinggardener.blogspot.com/2015/07/great-expectations.html
Saturday, 11 July 2015. I am back in Ontario now and trying to play catch up again. The flower gardens survived quite well without me and a little weeding has them looking great. The vege garden not so well. It needs a little bit more work! After a lot of rain in the last few days it shouldn't take much time to clear the beds. After one afternoon in the vege garden I already seem to be making progress. It's a bonus when I find self sown lettuce plants amongst the weeds. It was a tough winter.

The Travelling Gardener: February 2015
http://thetravellinggardener.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, 28 February 2015. As we head into late summer, the days are starting to shorten. The changes can be felt in the air. it is still hot and dry but the light is softer and the heat not as intense. The chooks seem to be feeling it as well. They seem to be taking turns taking the day off. We are getting less eggs, which isn't such a bad thing as I was having trouble finding uses for the 4 a day I was getting. Sunday, 22 February 2015. OMG it looks like we may be leaving New Zealand. We've had an ide...

The Travelling Gardener: Fences and deer
http://thetravellinggardener.blogspot.com/2015/06/fences-and-deer.html
Thursday, 25 June 2015. If I want to garden here on the island the first step will be to build a deer fence. Fortunately there are a lot of gardeners here on Malcolm Island and a lot of deer fences. I have been taking notes and here are a few pics I have gathered for inspiration. It all started with a trip to Wisterias garden. Yes that is her name and she does have this magnificent wisteria in full bloom. I thought her fence was simple with an interesting touch. Still simple but with more privacy.

The Travelling Gardener: Kitchen Notes
http://thetravellinggardener.blogspot.com/p/kitchen-notes.html
1 pkg dry yeast (I used 1 tbsp bread maker yeast). 2 c warm water (105-115 degrees). 2 c all purpose flour (I used white spelt flour). 1 tbsp sugar or honey. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 c of the warm water. Mix tog remaining ingredients and add to the yeast mixture. Cover sour dough starter with cheese cloth and let stand at room temp for 3-5 days, stirring several times a day. The starter is ready when it smells fermented and the vigorous bubbling stops. Maintenance and use of sourdough starter. After it has ...
