Jardine Juniper Trail

Logan Canyon, north side. 5 1/4 miles, one way, to the Jardine Juniper. Access via US 89, mile marker 471(at the Wood Camp Campground), then 0.2 miles north to the trailhead. This popular trail gradually climbs to a 1400-year old juniper tree (accessed by a short side trail). A loop at the end offers a scenic (west side) or shady (east side) options. ,. Logan Canyon, south side. Miles, from the junction with the River Trail near Bridger Campground to the junction with the Spring Hollow uphill (south) of Third Dam. Access via US 89 in Logan Canyon, at Bridger Campground or Spring Hollow Campground. There are several options to hike this trail in conjunction with the River Trail and the Spring Hollow Trail, including pleasant 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 mile loop hikes. Bridger Look Off, May 2012. Smithfield Canyon Ski/Snowshoe, 7 February, 2015. Eleven people gathered at Smith’s in Logan at 10:00 am: Dave W, Jane, Dave P, Kip, Bridgette, Tim, Jeanne, Catherine, Brent, Lynn, and Mitch. They joined Nick and Betty (trip leader) at Lee’s in Smithfield. We made good time to the gate at the trailhead, where pictures were taken . Because this area was in the shade, we made our way back down a ways to find a perfect sunny spot to enjoy lunch. Carpooled 11 miles to the Forest boundary in Smithfield Canyon.

Sink Hollow Nordic Ski, 22 February, 2015. Fearful of the high wind conditions in the area, three skiers (Dave W, Dave P and Dan the leader) drove past nearly snowless slopes of Logan Canyon canyon on our way to the Sink Hollow Winter Trailhead. Starting out at about 10:55 am we headed north on the Nordic United. Carpooled 29 miles to the Sink Hollow Winter Trailhead and started skiing about 10:55. Lunch at the trailhead, 12:15 - 12:40. Entrance to the groomed Sink Hollow track.

Bridger Look-Off Hike, February 21, 2015. Originally scheduled as a snowshoe trip, the event was changed to a hike due to bare trail conditions caused by unseasonably warm temperatures and a lack of snow. A scouting trip earlier in the week revealed an icy section near the top, but there was no snow. This was a pleasant hike in spite of the unsettled weather and unsure footing in places. We enjoyed the wildlife and learning about trail problems and maintenance issues as we hiked.
