http://casualkitchen.blogspot.com/2009/08/let-that-other-guy-pay-saving-money-in.html
Cook More. Think More. Spend Less. Let That Other Guy Pay! Saving Money in Two-Sided Markets. Continuing with our theme of Spreading The New Frugality, this article explains how you can save money on food and other consumer items by taking advantage of one of the idiosyncrasies of our modern economy: the two-sided market. PS: For those of you who missed last week's post. The phrase " The New Frugality. Is just a catchy-sounding name for plain old regular frugality. Pays in this kind of arrangement? Of al...
Casual Kitchen: Who's Watching the Watchdogs? Ethical Problems in the "Ten Riskiest Foods" Report By the CSPI

Cook More. Think More. Spend Less. Who's Watching the Watchdogs? Ethical Problems in the "Ten Riskiest Foods" Report By the CSPI. Here's where I correct an example of raging intellectual dishonesty from a well-meaning food safety watchdog group. Anyone listening to the news over the past day or two has probably heard a news blurb or two on a highly critical report about the dangers of eating 10 surprisingly risky foods. This report was written by the Center for Science in the Public Interest. All told, t...

Cook More. Think More. Spend Less. Easy Pasta Puttanesca Recipe. A well-made puttanesca sauce can be one of the most intensely flavorful of all the types of sauces in Italian cuisine. The recipe I have for you today is quick, inexpensive, and contains easy to find ingredients. The combination of olives, capers, garlic, hot pepper flakes and anchovies (don't panic! See below for more on this critical ingredient), makes for an unforgettable sauce. I've been trying to keep this blog more G-rated. 1/4 cup go...

kitties kitties kitties: August 2015
http://kittiesx3.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 26, 2015. A report on salt. A few years ago, my sis and her husband gave us a cool collection of salts for Christmas. We use Maldon. Salt as our daily salt so my sis knew we’d enjoy trying other kinds of salt. Then we moved and honestly I forgot about the salt—it sat in the back of a cabinet after we moved from Boston to Overland Park, and moved again to our home in Leawood. But when I was organizing our kitchen cabinets a la KonMarie. I’m not a fan of most smoked flavors so the n...

Going Oregonic: Race Report: Race for the Cure 5k
http://goingoregonic.blogspot.com/2009/09/race-report-race-for-cure-5k.html
A young couple moves from Nashville, Tennessee to Portland, Oregon. These are their adventures. Monday, September 21, 2009. Race Report: Race for the Cure 5k. I ran my first race. I ran the whole time, and I finished (and I wasn't last, either)! My final time was 33:19, which isn't great (everyone I know finished before me), but it's right on pace with what I've been running, so I think that's good. I didn't go. Slower than normal, and I'm feeling like that's a good thing. My best friend Amy. As I crosse...

Reading list: June 2015 ». July 20, 2015. The mourning doves tried, earlier this year, to hatch an egg or two. Sadly, they did not succeed. When they built their nest, it was in a very exposed spot and I think crows got to it. However . I will keep an eye out for squabs. Posted at 08:00 PM in Photography. Ombailamos: the latest on decluttering
http://www.ombailamos.com/ombailamos/2015/07/the-latest-on-decluttering.html
Laquo; reading list: June 2015. July 24, 2015. The latest on decluttering. Every few years there is another wave of the minimalism or decluttering trend. Currently, it is manifesting in Tiny Houses and in Marie Kondo. I havent read the Kondo book, mainly because I am well down the decluttering road and have overcome almost all of my emotional resistance to getting rid of stuff. But it sparks some interesting conversations here and there, as in this piece from David Cain at Raptitude. What I did was this.

Casual Kitchen Now Has a Podcast. I’m really excited to tell you about this. Some topics simply are better/easier to talk about and listen to in audio instead of video, so a podcast makes a lot of sense. Listen to episode 1. Summer Rice Salad With Grapes and Toasted Walnuts. Summer rice salad with grapes and toasted walnuts. That’s why I like this recipe: It’s easy to prepare and the rice is really one of the heroes instead of a mere “filler”.
