Along The Knife's Edge: McCain’t
http://alongtheknifesedge.blogspot.com/2008/11/mccaint.html
Along The Knife's Edge. Essays and rants from modern literary types you've never heard of. The imposition of a sentimental, or false, narrative on the disparate and often random experience that constitutes the life of a city or a country means, necessarily, that much of what happens in that city or country will be rendered merely illustrative, a series of set pieces, or performance opportunities.". Joan Didion – ‘Sentimental Journeys’ from After Henry. John McCain is compelling. To hear McCain sell it, i...

Along The Knife's Edge: Live from Tehran
http://alongtheknifesedge.blogspot.com/2009/01/live-from-tehran.html
Along The Knife's Edge. Essays and rants from modern literary types you've never heard of. Where are Their Guernicas? The fall in Tehran is pleasant. Very pleasant. As always, the horrendous traffic defies logic and the smog overpowers the landscape to the point that, some days, the Damavand summit is not visible. But there are days one can easily mistake for spring. My principal reason to visit Iran this time was a personal one. My father passed away few months earlier and I went back to pay my resp...

stephenhines.net: this just in!
http://www.stephenhines.net/2014/05/this-just-in.html
Monday, May 12, 2014. Like my NEWS FLASH! Yeah, me either, but I'm getting dry on titles. Just wanted to give an update. On my chapbook.it's getting very close. I'm waiting on some pages to come in the mail to sign/doodle. Also, there has been an alignment snag, but I'm sure Mr. Lally at Pig Ear Press. Will figure it out. He's a clever sort. Because of the page limitations and the nature of sewing chapbooks, we've had to drop one of the stories, but that may come out in another format.

Thursday, June 26, 2014. Well, after a mediumish wait, it's here. After busy schedules on both mine and Mr. Lally's side, cutter issues, printer glitches and the like, this is affecting me exactly the way it should. Pete Lally has worked hard and tirelessly on this one, like a Labrador Retreiver on a soup bone, and his effort shows. It looks right pretty, methinks. Come out in some sort of special edition, we haven't discussed details yet. This is affecting me exactly the way it should.

Along The Knife's Edge. Essays and rants from modern literary types you've never heard of. Excerpts From A Letter By An Unnamed Soldier Who Is Currently Serving. Man, I don't know if it's worth it for any of us to be here.". These people have a thousand years of this culture- Mongol, Hindu, Arab, British, Soviet, and now U.S. invasions- and, for the most part, your average citizen of Central Asia wants no part in change.". You can only hope it's the right thing, man–that the people at the other end...

Along The Knife's Edge: Not Long Now
http://alongtheknifesedge.blogspot.com/2008/12/not-long-now.html
Along The Knife's Edge. Essays and rants from modern literary types you've never heard of. The stars are hard and clear and bright against the vast black depths of the frozen night sky. A silence crawls over the landscape. A stillness. Everything hunkers down in burrow and den, in living room and bedroom, in cave and crevice. It is the longest night of the year and we wait for the coming of the dawn, for the return of the light, for the warmth spring brings. Honestly: Weve been drunk since the election!

Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Here's a short story that originally appeared in Austrailia's Regime 03. The magazine is sold out now, so for those who didn't buy a copy, here's your chance to read it! He stared at it until it went to. See if I see anything? He nodded and walked to the water again. The neighbour called his name a few times on the way to his boat but wasn’t heard. Or Why not me? A woman my size? He stops and gives us a lift. Everyone looked at the storeowner standing behind her and he gave ...

stephenhines.net: New book from Bottle of Smoke Press
http://www.stephenhines.net/2015/07/new-book-from-bottle-of-smoke-press.html
Monday, July 27, 2015. New book from Bottle of Smoke Press. Bill Roberts of Bottle of Smoke Press is madly working this summer. He is publishing three books in the next month, and one of them happens to be written by me, due out August 31st. This book is an experimental one, where I play with the idea of what is lost and/or gained through the process of translation. I took a poem of mine and fed it into an online translator through 30 languages and back into English after each translation.
