Election 2015 | chemistrypoet

Chemistry, science, and other things. Can the Tories be trusted to not shift even more wealth to the rich? Can the LibDems be trusted? Politics is a bit of a conundrum. Vastly complicated, and dominated by superficiality. But vastly important. Poor levels of regulation resulted in the crash, and a widening of the inequality gap. The Banks are still too big, and have been shown to be disreputable – have they been fixed? Are they still a systematic danger? This entry was posted in Uncategorized. May 6, 2015.

Bare your soul – warts and all? Face your Fear – of rejection. Flout good grammar (grandma),. Push the language envelope,. Twist meaningful meaning,. And dare not to rhyme, or scan. Give it a try. Chemistry, science, and other things. Frameworks of Knowledge – response to @Kris Boulton blogpost. This is my response to one of Kris Boulton’s blogs in his current excellent series. Read his blog post. Do we really organise our knowledge in this fashion (frameworks of knowledge)? I don’t know…it certainly feels like it. But, it is a very useful model to help understand memory, and understand what information/knowledge needs to be studied, and in what order. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Enter...

An English teacher trying to get better. Looking to discuss and share teaching and learning ideas. Beautiful language, beautiful analysis? February 1, 2015. When 140 Characters Isn't Enough: What we should have put in the White Paper

When 140 Characters Isn't Enough. Saturday, 7 March 2015. What we should have put in the White Paper. One of the problems with the education debate in England is the tendency to focus on the merits of individual policies - “should we decouple A-levels? 8221; “are free schools working? 8221; – rather than thinking strategically about what we’d like the system to look like and then using that template for making policy decisions. But autonomy and accountability aren’t enough. The latter creates i...At the ...

Stupid stuff I've seen or heard about in education. No hands up nonsense. Teachers who undermine ». An intensely political campaign. June 11, 2014. I really like The Seven Myths About Education. By Daisy Christodoulou. It illustrates convincingly the extent to which progressive education pervades all aspects of education. It then takes on some of the key tenets of modern progressive education, as reinforced by the establishment, and illustrates that these tenets are myths. One thing Harry skates over and...

David Thomas' Blog. 3 Teaching Techniques That Made My 2014. At the start of this academic year I wanted to really put the theory of learning I knew into practice. Here are three teaching techniques I tried that I’ll be taking with me into 2015. We know that interleaving concepts and procedures is a desirable difficulty. That improves learning. This year I’ve made it my aim to never teach a lesson that uses only one topic. 2 Spaced testing of *everything*. The second way is through an idea I’ve borrowed ...

A blog about teaching, research, leadership and learning. What’s the point of educational research? On observations and inset. In common with a large number of schools around the country we had an inset day today. And in common with a lot of schools, I am sure, some parts of the site felt more like this. Than a warm, welcoming place of work! Our lesson observations focus on three things (the Big Three, as we call them):. Are they being given the chance to develop independence of thought? To be honest, th...

The start of term has meant that I have not turned this around as quickly as I would have liked but here, nonetheless, is my personal view of researchED 2014.
