Hayabusa 2 heads off to an asteroid tomorrow. 2 December, 2014. On Wednesday, December 3 at 1:22 p.m Japanese Standard Time (Tuesday, December 2, 11:22pm EST), the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Space Agency (JAXA) will send a spacecraft to an asteroid to collect a sample and return it to Earth. Launch coverage should be available online. But here’s a link to their LiveStream feed. Hayabusa 2’s orbital trajectory. Credit: JAXA. Talk about one hell of an ambitious mission! Juno, the Music Video. 2 July, 2016. A mesmerizing celebration of the Juno mission, and the creatures of a small blue planet who sent a tiny spacecraft to Jupiter, for no other reason than sheer curiosity. Created for Apple Music. It’s haunting and inspiring at the same time. There’s a few more tracks I’ll have to check out as well. You can keep track of the Juno mission at the Southwest Research Institute’s Juno site. 12 January, 2015. 8220;Space Suite” by Lucas Green. 12 September, 2012. On September 1...

An Overhead View of Saturn. 16 October, 2013. On October 10, 2013, the Cassini spacecraft took an image of Saturn that is unlike anything we’ve ever seen from Earth:. Saturn captured by Cassini in red, green, and blue-filter images on October 10, 2013. Click to enringulate. Image credit: NASA / JPL / SSI / Gordan Ugarkovic. It’s unlike any view of Saturn we’ve ever seen from Earth because it’s a view we can never see from Earth! And what an image it is! Shown in light blue in this image. Each side of...

Laughing at the Pieces: That's Not My Church, Either
http://robstaeger.blogspot.com/2014/11/thats-not-my-church-either.html
Laughing at the Pieces. Back in the ring to take another swing. Sunday, November 23, 2014. That's Not My Church, Either. I’ve had a few friends say that watching Cosmos. My church moments are usually live theater – or live music. In theater, it’s often when some connection is made that I haven’t seen before. The end of Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile,. The first time I saw it… that was a church moment for me. Pig Iron Theater Company’s Dig or Fly. Is an unusually engaging science program. I...

Laughing at the Pieces. Back in the ring to take another swing. Tuesday, September 02, 2014. Na Na Na Na. Dreamed I was Robin last night – the original, Dick Grayson. The short pants, everything. Batman—sort of a cross between the modern comics Batman and Adam West—and I were pretending to work with some warlord in order to get to the real threat—a crime kingpin? I don’t know. 8220;You should call him,” I said. Batman agreed. 8221; he asked the warlord, pointing to a finely shaded underboob. Movies, and ...
Laughing at the Pieces: Do Androids Dream of Electric Cars?

Laughing at the Pieces. Back in the ring to take another swing. Friday, February 28, 2014. Do Androids Dream of Electric Cars? So there's a Cadillac commercial that was in heavy rotation during the Olympics. It stars Neal McDonough, who's played a shady creep in pretty much everything I've ever seen him in ( Desperate Housewives. Spring to mind; he's always a great choice for a villain), selling Caddy's new electric model. Here it is, if you want to watch. About the thing, calling it a "nightmare.".

Laughing at the Pieces: Trilobite Therapy
http://robstaeger.blogspot.com/2015/05/trilobite-therapy.html
Laughing at the Pieces. Back in the ring to take another swing. Saturday, May 02, 2015. Had what may be the most frightening nightmare of my adulthood last night – certainly of the monster/horror variety, rather than the personal tragedy type of dream. I blame Coraline. Neil Gaiman and Henry Selick’s brilliantly concocted nightmare fuel. Not that my dream followed the movie exactly… no one was going to sew buttons on my eyes. But man, the bugs. Posted by Rob S. Laughing at the Pieces: Once More Unto the Breach
http://robstaeger.blogspot.com/2015/03/once-more-unto-breach.html
Laughing at the Pieces. Back in the ring to take another swing. Thursday, March 19, 2015. Once More Unto the Breach. So I’ve rejoined my cult. I walked into Weight Watchers four pounds heavier than the last time I walked into Weight Watchers to start the plan. This’ll be my third time doing it; besides my attempt five years ago, I did it once in the 90s when I was still living in Pennsylvania, when the weight sloughed off easily, as I was, what, 24? http://robstaeger.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Laughing at the Pieces. Back in the ring to take another swing. Saturday, March 21, 2015. I had a pretty good week, cult-wise. I stayed on plan, despite all the goodies that show up to eat where I'm freelancing (this week, a major cooking magazine, super-tempting), and made some smart choices in their cafeteria for lunch - smart enough that I even had a few beers this week, as I passed some time, for one reason or another, at bars near train stations. Laughing at the Pieces: First Setback
http://robstaeger.blogspot.com/2015/05/first-setback.html
Laughing at the Pieces. Back in the ring to take another swing. Saturday, May 09, 2015. I've been going to Weight Watchers for a few months now, steadily if unspectacularly losing weight. It changed today, with a gain of 1.2 pounds, bringing my total loss back down to 8.6 pounds from 9.8. On the other hand, I rode 40 miles in the 5-Boro Tour this week, and actually enjoyed it. So that ain't nothin'. Posted by Rob S. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). There was an error in this gadget. Comics on the Brain.
Laughing at the Pieces: An Elephant Never Forgets to Post
http://robstaeger.blogspot.com/2015/04/an-elephant-never-forgets-to-post.html
Laughing at the Pieces. Back in the ring to take another swing. Thursday, April 02, 2015. An Elephant Never Forgets to Post. To keep myself honest, I ought not to skip a week of reporting from my cult. Last week at my weigh-in, I dropped another 1.8 pounds… a pretty good figure, I think. That’s 5.2 pounds altogether, which is the same weight as this majestic elephant statuette holding a wishing bell. Or, you know, a sack of potatoes, but you’ve seen that before. Posted by Rob S. Launch Pad Astronomy Workshop: Improving Science Literacy through Words and Media. James L. Sutter. Guest Instructors: Christian Ready. On Friday, july 19, the class of launch Pad 2013 took a moment to step outside and wave at Saturn on the day Earth smiled. The photo was taken from the direction of Saturn relative to our location here on Earth so this is what the Cassini spacecraft might have seen if it had a strong enough zoom lens. Guest Instructors: Geoffrey Landis, Christian Ready). June 1-7, 2016.

Iola's Christian Reads
Reviews, commentary and profiles of classic, new and upcoming Christian fiction titles. Today I reach a milestone here at Iola’s Christian Reads. Actually, I reach two. I think. I started Iola’s Christian Reads in September 2011, after winning an ebook in an online giveaway. I’d just bought a Kobo (Kindles weren’t yet available here in New Zealand), and was keen to build my electronic library. Paperbacks cost around $30 each in New Zealand at the time, so this seemed like a good deal. I remain curious th...

A Christian Reads The Qur'an | My Year-Long Endeavor to Better Understand Islam
A Christian Reads The Qur'an. My Year-Long Endeavor to Better Understand Islam. January 19, 2012. Posted by Jason Knight under Uncategorized. Now, just a few weeks past a year, I come to the end of the Qur’an, and therefore this blog. It has been a good project. Tough at times. Several things happened personally (like a tree falling on my house! If you are interested). Muslims are people too. Culture plays a bigger role in modern Islam than a text. No, they are not out to get us. Yet, some of them are.
