Katie the Librarian: July 2015
http://librariankatie.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, 26 July 2015. At the beginning of July I spent a couple of days in Liverpool at CILIP Conference 2015. Having been lucky enough to win a bursary from the ARLG London and South East region. I was keen to attend the conference, having worked in the area of Special Collections for well over ten years, so my conference attendance had tended to be restricted to those events that were closely connected to my specialist area. Concert Hall, where the keynotes took place. So, what next? 1879-1880: Robert ...

CILIP 2015: learning points and reflections. CILIP 2015: learning points and reflections. July 13, 2015. Continuing my Epic Month of Conferences, on 2-3 July I headed to Liverpool for the CILIP conference. I was really excited for this one, largely because of the very high quality keynote speakers. St George’s Hall, Liverpool – a beautiful place for a conference! Why yes, I am chartering, how did you guess? I live-tweeted the conference and have made a Storify of my tweets, retweets and favourites from e...

The Usmeum of Ordiments: A history of my family in 100 objects (plus). Take a look at the place you call your home, You're reflected in all the things you own. Dean Friedman, Well Well Said the Rocking Chair. Newer posts →. Bad hair days (objects 136-138). July 5, 2015. I’ve recently had my hair cut. Something that doesn’t happen often, as I don’t take much care of my appearance, but I was due to attend the CILIP librarians’ conference. Or Churt; if the latter it must have belonged to Auntie. Until, that...

Because one of the best things about librarians is that we're always learning! Monday, 6 July 2015. Last week I was lucky enough to attend the annual CILIP Conference. Information literacy and digital inclusion. Digital futures and technology. Having taken the New Librarianship Masterclass. There was also an insight from Barbara Schack into the fascinating Ideas Box. The final keynote came from Erwin James. London gave a very passionate talk on her work to encourage more people to read by creating an imm...

Helping Evaluate Library Practice. DBS seminar keynote: broken library communications and how to fix it. I attended the 2nd DBS library annual seminar on Friday, 12 June 2015. There were lots of interesting speakers, but I’d just like to give a flavour of the keynote, given by Andy Priestner from Cambridge University Broken library communications and how to fix it. As some of you will know, I have an interest in library value measurement, but also how we communicate this value. Blog may be more discursive.
