Saturday the 9th of July. Will be party time here. Not only will we be celebrating our 100 years of survival, but the Blakeburn reunion will be incorporated. It will be a day of reminiscing and catching up with old friends. This is all made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Coalmont Energy Corporation, which is owned by Arthon Construction Ltd. Starting at noon, we'll have a BBQ with hamburgers and pop. At 4:30 we will be having a dinner for Coalmont residents, Blakeburn Reunion members.

The building on the left, known as the tipple. Is long gone from the landscape, but it is certainly the most iconic structure of Coalmont's history. Although the town did flourish during the 20's and 30's, even then it was hanging on by a thread, because the tipple was the end of a three mile long tramway which is what brought the coal to the railway here. Without that unique structure, Coalmont would not be here now. There are other interesting buildings from the first years. Some are still with us.

History of Coalmont and Area. There is only one town remaining, but the history of Granite Creek, Coalmont, and Blakeburn is so inextricable that the three towns can generally be considered as one. 7 days a week from noon on. The Coalmont Hotel is located 18km outside of Princeton BC, along the famous Coalmont Road which continues on to Tulameen. This road is spectacular and goes through some slide areas, but thankfully it is cleared twice a day, and more frequently in the winter. Please be very watchful for wildlife. There is an unusual amount of deer along, and often on, the road. If you wish to learn more about Coalmont, please visit the Coalmont Community web site.

The only public utilities are landline phones and electricity. There are no stores and only one stop sign. Current population is around 100. It is exactly 100 years since Coalmont came into being. We have been called a ghost town, and our closest communities, Granite Creek and Blakeburn, are long gone. But we're still here! The Canadian Census for 1911 reports 7 million people in the whole country, 50 people in Granite Creek, and 103 in Coalmont.
