http://cohans2.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Friends, activities, neighborhood, markets, Day Trips, etc. Saturday, February 21, 2009. Deloitte's annual standardization meeting was held in Antwerp this year. As always, spouses were invited (this year there were many more trailing spouses than in years past). We (the spouses) got to go on an organized tour of the city while they (the employees) worked. Deloitte also provided dinner at a nice restaurant and accommodations at the Hilton. And as celebrated by the. In front of the. Hand werpen—akin...

Friends, activities, neighborhood, markets, Day Trips, etc. Sunday, February 21, 2010. Beer Warehouse and Aachen Christmas Market. Shannon, Ali, Reagan, Rick and I ventured out to this beer warehouse near Antwerp and then to Aachen, Germany for the Christmas market. Rick was in heaven with so many beer choices at great prices! The Christmas market was also fun. We ate some of our favorites (potato pancakes and mushrooms in cream sauce) as well as some yummy German desserts. Wine in the City.

Friends, activities, neighborhood, markets, Day Trips, etc. Monday, February 22, 2010. Parade in Ninove and Krakelingen Festival in Geraardsbergen. The costumes were hilarious and the atmosphere was very festive.a great find. These last floats were incredible! People were dancing, playing drums and moving in unison on platforms that swiveled around. I couldn't believe how well they all kept the beat. Krakelingen Festival, Geraardsbergen. This is Carnival Geraardsbergen style! If that is not bizarre enoug...

Friends, activities, neighborhood, markets, Day Trips, etc. Friday, July 10, 2009. Thursday, July 9, 2009. Here are some picture from my friend, Ali's, baby shower, which I threw along with Leah and Maisie. It was my first co-ed shower. But I thought having the guys there made it a lot of fun. We also had a barbeque, which was unique for a baby shower. Ali and her husband, shannon, received a lot of great gifts. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Wine in the City. Chateau de Ventenac - Minervois.

Friends, activities, neighborhood, markets, Day Trips, etc. Sunday, June 14, 2009. The Flemish region of Limburg is known as "Fietsparadijs", which means "biking paradise". I have to admit that I agree with this title as there is a huge network of well-marked bike trails throughout the region. It's also very flat and green. While other regions in Flanders have great bike networks as well, I find Limburg to be one of the prettier parts. Netherlands: Polish Pottery Outlet And Utrecht. It was a beautiful Fr...

A Diary Of Our Travels and Experiences While Living Abroad. Saturday, June 27, 2009. Butler, Cohan, Horak Reunion in Northern England. In general, Northern England is (to use a British expression) just lovely. Who couldn't fall in love with green, rolling hills and dales dotted with beautiful flowers and precious cottages. In addition to York and Harrogate, we spent a day in the countryside, where we visited some old druid ruins (very cool! We ended our day (or evening) in Masham at a pub that was suppos...

A Diary Of Our Travels and Experiences While Living Abroad. Friday, March 28, 2008. Links to this post. Thursday, March 27, 2008. I had the unique and wonderful opportunity to stay in a small village in Slovakia for 9 days. My friend, Maria, was going home to visit her family and she invited me to come along. The landscape of southern Slovakia is basically farmland with villages scattered throughout. There are also a few larger towns including the capital, Bratislava. The preparation of meals takes up a ...

A Diary Of Our Travels and Experiences While Living Abroad. Wednesday, December 05, 2007. It was off-season so the weather was not great but we basically had the canals to ourselves. The route we took allowed us to enjoy a mixture of town and country. We moored a couple of nights in natural areas (one night we even had an island to ourselves) and we also spent some time walking in some of the towns along the way. This was a fabulous trip! Here are a few pictures of the boat that was our home for 4 days,.

A Diary Of Our Travels and Experiences While Living Abroad. Friday, September 17, 2010. When we found out that we were going to be leaving Brussels in July, I immediately planned a trip to Rome. It's one of those places that was on my "must see" list that I had not yet seen. We went in March, which was a good idea as it was just before the start of the tourist season. However, we did not get the typical, warm and sunny Rome weather. It was cold! The Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, Saint Peter's Basilica.

A Diary Of Our Travels and Experiences While Living Abroad. Saturday, November 28, 2009. Land Of The Midnight Sun: After The Cruise. We rented an apartment that was right on the water's edge. It gave us magnificent views of the Aurlandsfjorden. We were finally free from the ship and on our own. This place beautiful and we all wished that we would have been able to spend more time there. Then, it was back to Flam via a fast ferry. A view of our apartments as we approach Flam on the ferry. The Lofoton Isla...

A Diary Of Our Travels and Experiences While Living Abroad. Friday, September 12, 2008. Aside from tasting and buying wine, this trip was a great opportunity to practice my French. I had fun speaking with the locals and I feel that being able to communicate with them in their language makes the experience more interesting. Links to this post. Thursday, September 11, 2008. A Diary Of Our Travels and Experiences While Living Abroad. Wednesday, April 09, 2008. Best Beer In The World. Westvleteren 12 has been voted "best beer in the world" for several years running. The monks at the Saint Sixtus abbey brew this beer. They brew 3 different beers, all of which are very good. One is a blonde beer and the other two are dark. The pick-up process is equally as bizarre as the ordering process. Just think McDonalds drive-through—except with monks and beer! Links to this post.

A Diary Of Our Travels and Experiences While Living Abroad. Tuesday, November 27, 2007. One of the other pools had beautiful fountains that sprayed out very hard water and a place where people play chess in the water. We got to visit with our friends, Paula and Wayne, again. They took us to Vidam (fun) Park. We had lots of vidam! We also went to an art exhibit and got to eat at the Hummus Bar, which they introduced us to last time. This place has the best hummus I've ever tasted. Shopping at the market.
