After much research into trains across Europe to Sweden I eventually concluded that it is impossible to make it to Scandinavia within two days on a budget any way other than by air. View Oxford to Swansea. In a larger map. Distance: 170.4 miles (one-way). I cycled this route from Swansea back to Oxford on my way back from a conference. The Youth Hostel just outside Brecon is very freindly; they were very accomodating despite my internet booking not going through! The Brecons themselves are beautiful, particularly during sunrise and sunset. I had the added bonus of even more brilliant skies than usual, courtesy of the volcano in Iceland. Day 1 (red line):. The aim is to stop along the way and take in the many neolithic sites between the Uffington White Horse and Avebury's stone circle. Apart from getting lost attempting to take a scenic route through Garsington and ending up in Wheatley it went quite well. View Oxford to Cambridge. In a larger map. Distance (purple route): 91.9 miles (one-way). Distance (blue route): 81.8 miles (one-way). I finally headed out along the purple route on Monday 19th of August, and on Wednesday I come back along the blue. The last town to stop in before Cambridge is Sandy, which has an agreeable town centre, and some smaller supermarkets just before the bridge. Do not be fooled by the last 10 miles to Cambridge, they are not as flat as they look! Good places to stop for a bite...
