My Green vermont: 3,672 Stitches
http://mygreenvermont.blogspot.com/2015/05/3672-stitches.html
Friday, May 1, 2015. Three years and 3,672 stitches later, the needlepoint pillow I started from an Ehrman kit. Is finally finished. I didn't actually count the stitches. I just multiplied the number of stitches per inch (12) by the size of the design (18"x17"). Math is so useful sometimes. When I told a friend- an exceptionally creative woman who is always elbow-deep in some project she has just invented- what I was working on, she opened her eyes wide. "You are working from a kit. My Green vermont: April 2015
http://mygreenvermont.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 20, 2015. My Mother Says.Continued. After her story of the Spanish Civil War, my mother begins to tell how she met my father. She might never have come across him if my grandmother had been more traditionally minded and kept her in the village, or if the war had not happened, or if my mother had not taken it into her head to learn to play the violin. If it hadn't been for my mother's sense of what was her due, I could have been the daughter of a fascist officer. After the war,. As a teenage...

My Green vermont: January 2015
http://mygreenvermont.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 27, 2015. As the winter solstice came and went I found my resistance to posting on this blog, which had been growing through the summer and fall, impossible to overcome. I'd been writing here for seven years, and my blogging well had run dry. It was time to let it replenish. So after New Year's I decided to give myself a sabbatical. Maybe it's because the chickens and the gardening, etc. have been replaced by other stuff that I cannot resist, such as:. Daily dog walks ( not. Sometimes, w...

On the Easel: Moonrise
http://etorak.blogspot.com/2008/12/moonrise_26.html
Friday, December 26, 2008. On December 12, 2008 the full moon was supposed to be the largest in decades (don't ask me why or how - maybe Dana Wigdor knows). I'd been nursing an idea for a painting of the Mettowee valley flooded with moonlight and dotted with fire as part of my AOA proposal so when George Bouret (of Game Supper photography fame) e-mailed me the news about the December 12th moon and asked if I wanted to join a group hike to the top of Mt. Haystack to see it I jumped at the chance. That see...

On the Easel: November 2008
http://etorak.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Links to this post. Labels: Art of Action. Friday, November 21, 2008. My project is going to be about the community of Vermonters. It was my friend Eric Mach who inadvertently pushed me in this direction. He was the guy who told me he was optimistic about the future of Vermont because of the people. That really stuck with me and ultimately changed my focus - I had been leaning towards doing something about preserving the landscape. Links to this post. Bout time I posted some.

On the Easel: March 2010
http://etorak.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 06, 2010. 8220;This notion of Emptiness thus.concludes that all known realities are constructed realities whose identities are merely intellectual conveniences used to order the world so that it can be understood.”. From Buddhism by Kevin Trainor. I gave my friend the option to choose either painting and she chose the first one, the realistic one. I was left with the semi-abstraction and after awhile I copied it and did a larger version. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

My Green vermont: One Dog, Or Two?
http://mygreenvermont.blogspot.com/2015/05/one-dog-or-two.html
Tuesday, May 26, 2015. One Dog, Or Two? Now people are asking if I plan to get another dog. One friend says, "You should always have at least two dogs. That way, when one of them dies, you're not left dogless." Another asks, "If dogs kept humans as pets, wouldn't you appreciate having another person in the house? They are right, of course. But. Although I have almost always had two dogs (for a while I had three, but that was way. I think I can stay vigilant enough to prevent my relationship with Bisou fr...
