Under our own olive tree. Oep ve Koep in Paternoster. And summer ice plants ("vygies"). His food is beautifully presented, from the bread starter with bokkoms flavoured butter and syrupy naartjie to the oysters served on rocks. Edible flowers made the tomato consommé with lobster almost too pretty to eat. Our taste buds can testify to a very interesting culinary experience! You can like their Facebook page here. Under our own olive tree. A unexpected travel highlight. I felt honoured to be there, because here was the ‘real’ Andalucía, hidden in plain sight from the tourists, but allowing us to witness again the true reason why we travel: not to visit those sights that are packaged for the tourists, but to see those things that authentically broaden our horizons. Image credits: Most of these photos were taken by my sister, Elanie Fourie. Andalucía - travel memories. So, I dusted off the hard drive with the pho.

Under our own olive tree. It is that time of the year when I just have no time to blog but looking back at this past year, I am so grateful for all the wonderful memories. Hopefully, when the New Year starts I will be back on this blog in full swing. In the meantime, merry Christmas to you all! May you experience God’s loving embrace. Under our own olive tree: Changes to this blog
http://underourownolivetree.blogspot.com/2015/03/changes-to-this-blog.html
Under our own olive tree. Changes to this blog. For the past couple of months, this blog morphed into a bit of a mommy blog with loads and loads of portraits of my kids. I realised that I missed sharing snippets of our lives, our attempts to be tourists in our own town and our travels to other parts of the country and sometimes even the rest of the globe. You can link to the website here. All the kiddie posts previously posted on this blog will be deleted and transferred to their new home. All the images...

Under our own olive tree. When you give a camera to a 6-year old. Here is the last post about the 40 years of Transkaroo party. As I mentioned before, I gave my old camera (a Canon Power Shot G12) to Daniel on the evening of the party so that he could also take pictures. The angle from his 1.2m height provides a very different perspective, although often less than flattering with everyone’s double chins on display! But I just loved his enthusiasm! 40 years of Transkaroo: The celebration. What you can do,...

Under our own olive tree. This is not often a very ‘here are some pictures of my family’ blog, but today I am happy to make the exception. Recently, on a family trip to my parents’ home, we took the opportunity to surprise Daniel with a Tour de France-themed party for his seventh birthday – a sort of family-only pre-birthday bash. Under our own olive tree. A few more Chinatown images. Here are a few more pics from our trip to Chinatown (read here. A walk through Little Asia. Along the road we saw different Asian restaurants, but the one that I would love to return to is a Korean restaurant, called Gangnam Korean BBQ (yes, Gangnam style :-). Hot coals are set inside a hole in the table and the customers barbeque their food at the table. The food is served with an assortment of pickles and dipping sauces. Another restaurant that cau...
