I'd say you're probably right: at any given time there's a wide range of reading material and authors, but it's only the really great ones (as determined who-knows-how) that survive in our collective memory and enjoy some enduring popularity. Wednesday, February 15, 2006. I think maybe it's time I said something about what I do. I am trained as a potter, and am setting up a workshop next to my house. While the workshop is not profitable I pay the mortgage by being a ceramic technician in an art school. Where I also teach a class in handbuilding. I have also done some design work. Thursday, June 01, 2006. I try to battle against mediocrity in my work. I know that this sounds to some like a very egotistical and self-agrandising statement to make, but it is not about me, it is not about my ego, nor about thinking that I am any better than anyone else. I think that most mediocrity and most bad work is made by egotistical people: those who need to express themselves, to make a personal statement, to be somebody. I don't want to. Anybody, I just want to make beautiful objects.
