Mental imagery is an important cognitive method for problem solving, and the mental rotation of complex objects, as originally described by Shepard and Metzler, is among the best studied of mental imagery tasks" (Cohen, et al., 1996). In this task, participants are asked to judge whether a second stimulus is the same as the original stimulus, without regard to the second figure's rotation in space (Herlitz, et al., 1999).
