Saipan & Tinian

Saipan and Tinian figured prominently in World War II. Tinian was the site of the base from which the first atomic bomb was flown to Hiroshima. An American tank sits in the ocean as a reminder of WWII. -. A Japanese bunker on Saipan. Engine of a cane train used by Japanesewhen they controlled the island. A Japanese military building. Japanese civilians jumped offf this cliff because they were told American soldiers would torture them. Many WWII guns are still in evidence. We visited the mayors office.

We were a group of 20 people many of whom 8 had attended previous Pacific Arts Festivals in Palau in 2004, American Samoa in 2008.
