Windborne in Puget Sound. Life aboard s/v Eolian. Monday, April 27, 2015. A couple of posts back I talked. About getting some color-matched gelcoat from Fiberlay. And I promised I would tell you about the results. Well here they are:. Filling some screw holes and chips on the edge of a cockpit seat. Looks pretty good, doesn't it? But the color match is absolutely perfect! Huge kudos to Fiberlay. For a match well made! Posted by Robert Salnick. Monday, April 20, 2015. First, at home I cut and trimmed the ...

Windborne in Puget Sound: July 2015

Windborne in Puget Sound. Life aboard s/v Eolian. Monday, July 20, 2015. Transitioning to retirement is not an event. it is a process. And at this stage of the process, we have discovered that our previous usage patterns for the boat have changed. We have settled (for now, at least) on two weeks because of a couple of things. First, garbage. Regular readers of this blog may remember that I have mentioned before that our limiting capacity on Eolian. So, is this better? Posted by Robert Salnick. 2 The shoa...

Windborne in Puget Sound: August 2014

Windborne in Puget Sound. Life aboard s/v Eolian. Wednesday, August 27, 2014. The Curve of Time, Revisited. Think back. Do you remember the third grade? Where the teacher, at her wits end at the end of the day, had you kids put your heads down on your desks and spent the last half hour quietly reading to the class? Are still stuck in my head from that experience. And it was. An experience. it was much more than the story alone. Several years ago (have I been blogging that long? The Curve of Time. Now put...

Windborne in Puget Sound: December 2014
http://windborneinpugetsound.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Windborne in Puget Sound. Life aboard s/v Eolian. Monday, December 29, 2014. You may remember that one of the early projects we did on Eolian. Was to rebuild the refrigerator. From the hull out. As a part of that project, I discarded the original door and replaced it with one that I got at the old Doc Freeman's for $10 because the decor panel was damaged. I replaced that panel with a sheet of black Plexiglas (thanks Clear Cut Plastics. And remounted it on the original hardware. Sure Marine is one of thos...

Windborne in Puget Sound: Surveying
http://windborneinpugetsound.blogspot.com/2015/07/surveying.html
Windborne in Puget Sound. Life aboard s/v Eolian. Friday, July 10, 2015. So today I spent a little while in the dinghy with my new depth sounder. Taking measurements. All of the readings in the picture above are ones I made. Since I am crowd sourcing this data, I made sure that it was corrected for the tide before adding it to the chart. Three things were learned:. 1 There is adequate water off that private dock should we need to tie to it in an emergency. More surveying to come. Posted by Robert Salnick.

Windborne in Puget Sound: June 2015
http://windborneinpugetsound.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Windborne in Puget Sound. Life aboard s/v Eolian. Monday, June 29, 2015. Recently when anchored in a familiar bay, we saw a boat anchored in a location that was filled with submerged pilings. Or at least in the past it was. Years before, we had actually surveyed this part of the bay by dinghy at low tide and marked the locations of the pilings we could see using a hand-held GPS. Did he know something we didn't? Or was he blithely happy in his ignorance (and lucky)? And then there are the ones that have a...

Windborne in Puget Sound. Life aboard s/v Eolian. Monday, February 23, 2015. A Small Little Project. Our rail-mounted BBQ table (it's really a fish cleaning table, but Fish Do Not. Not bad for $15 and a couple of hours work in the shop! A Small Little Project. Posted by Robert Salnick. Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Look close - there's algae there too. Well, I did some research - it is such a wonderful thing to have the bulk of Man's knowledge at your fingertips! Algae, moss and lichens suffer grave bodily...

Windborne in Puget Sound: August 2015
http://windborneinpugetsound.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Windborne in Puget Sound. Life aboard s/v Eolian. Monday, August 31, 2015. You're at a quiet anchorage in late summer. There is a slight breeze - just enough to keep you comfortably cool. Then you get out some food or drinks in the cockpit, or begin to bait a crab trap. And then here they come. Because they have these brown paper bags inflated and hung all over. Our waitress explained that the yellowjackets see the bags as paper wasp nests and stay away accordingly. Maybe they are natural enemies? I boug...

Windborne in Puget Sound: May 2015
http://windborneinpugetsound.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Windborne in Puget Sound. Life aboard s/v Eolian. Monday, May 25, 2015. On Thursday, 5/21/2015, I pulled up the NeverWet test coupon that had been submerged. Since 12/14/2014, approximately 5 months. Upon retrieval, there was no longer any visible air film on the coated side of the coupon - the silvery appearance was gone. Nevertheless, there was a marked difference between the treated side and the control. The NeverWet had retarded marine growth, if not prevented it:. After light water spray. Espressos ...
