Flourishing Palms: Then and Now
http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2015/07/then-and-now.html
Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Can you find me? And my husband of just one year? This picture was taken in 1973, at the wedding of our then-Mason City, Iowa friends, Patty and Greg. (I'm on the far left.). Here we are, two days ago at the Arnold Palmer Legends restaurant. "Just" 42 years later, looking pretty much the same. ha! Well, maybe not the same on the outside, but feeling. Patty says she still has a close relationship with all three of us who were her bridesmaids. How many brides can say that? I'm cha...

Flourishing Palms: No Tails Binding Tutorial
http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2009/06/binding-tutorial_12.html
Monday, June 15, 2009. No Tails Binding Tutorial. I'm often asked, "How do you like to apply binding? Below is a tutorial I'm glad to offer. This binding method is one with no joining, and machine-sewn mitered corners. If you haven't tried it, I encourage you to do so. No Tails Binding Tutorial. Begin by preparing double-fold binding (AKA French binding) in one long continuous strip. My favorite width is cut 2-1/4". Do not trim backing and batting at this time. Rst sew binding to the quilt; then trim.
Flourishing Palms: Dog Days of Summer
http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2015/07/dog-days-of-summer.html
Thursday, July 30, 2015. Dog Days of Summer. Company's gone. No other visitors are expected. Hogan has reclaimed the guest room as his personal "office." We're thoroughly into the dog days of summer. Every day it rains. Every day it's hot. In fact, at 82 degrees and 93 percent humidity, this is what happened to my Canon PowerShot when I stepped outside to take a picture. It fogged over! Be about halfway finished. I just hope this spool of pale yellow Aurifil #2123 holds out until I'm done. I dont envy yo...
Flourishing Palms: Flourishing Palms
http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/p/flourishing-palms.html
I learned to quilt in 1976, and have been quiltmaking steadily since the mid-1980's. I began blogging about quilting in January, 2009. After living in West Des Moines, Iowa for nearly 23 years, in June 2012 I moved to Florida. Though palm trees don't grow in Iowa, I have always appreciated the beauty of palms. How ironic that I would eventually come to live in a place where palm trees flourish! And did you know? Most significantly, palm fronds look like open hands! A large Bismarck palm (see my blog head...
Flourishing Palms: Fluffy Binding
http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2010/02/this-fluffy-binding-technique-also.html
Sunday, February 21, 2010. This fluffy binding technique, also referred to as caterpillar binding, is not of my own design. So I offer here a tutorial of my experience making it. Quite honestly, it's a little challenging as you'll see at a particular step, but in the end it's worth any extra care you take making it. You'll need to figure binding yardage according to your own project. Be aware you'll cut 4-1/2" wide bias strips that will be joined to measure the circumference of your quilt. This was the s...
Flourishing Palms: The No-Trimmed Quilt, or What Happens When You Do!
http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-no-trimmed-quilt-or-what-happens.html
Monday, April 13, 2015. The No-Trimmed Quilt, or What Happens When You Do! I've learned so much from teaching No Tails Binding! Mostly, I've been surprised to know that some quilters:. 1) aren't familiar with the concept of squaring-up blocks, squaring up a quilt center, and how to add measured. Borders that square-up the whole quilt. 2) are accustomed to making binding that leaves less binding showing on the front of the quilt, and more binding showing on the back. Binding that shows equally. Like if yo...

Flourishing Palms: Happy Happenin's!
http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2015/07/happy-happenins.html
Tuesday, July 14, 2015. I've been sewing away for the past couple weeks, and I have a few things I can share. First, there's been only a little progress on My Small World. After cleaning up the Scrap Vortex mess, I've been slow to shore up energy to scrabble through scraps for the bits needed to complete Section 3. S new book Machine Quilting With Style: From Walking Foot Wonders to Free-motion Favorites. I'll have a giveaway when my blog hop turn comes up, and you won't want to miss it! I've begun quilt...
