Dampier was orphaned at the age of sixteen, and was placed with the master of a ship at Weymouth, with whom he sailed to Newfoundland. On his return he sailed to Bantam in the East Indies. He joined the Royal Navy in 1673 and took part in the battles of Scoonvelde. After recovering from illness, in 1674 he became manager of an estate in Jamaica, later engaging in the coastal trade, in logging in Mexico and in buccaneering. In my beginning is my end. ECCF is made up of a variety of age groups from a wide range of backgrounds and we are told that it is easy to feel at home with us. We enjoy being together and recognise that what holds us together is our experience of being welcomed into God’s family and experiencing His love expressed in Jesus Christ. EAST COKER SHORT MAT. Welcome to East Coker Short Mat. Bowls Club Web Site. East Coker Short Mat Bowls Club was founded in 1999. Today our club has a membership of 30 enabling us to field teams for league matches, friendlies and tournaments. We also have a Junior section to the club which was formed in liaison with the village school. We are proud to report that 150 Junior school children from the school came to the club for taster sessions of Short Mat Bowls. Bowls Club on Sunday 29th September 2013.
