The enormity of the hand-carved facades, tombs, columns and buildings make any other human accomplishment seem extremely unimpressive. Salt, Jerash, Ajlun, Umm Qais. July 26, 2011. 25 July, 2011. This past week, I’ve visited Salt, Jerash, Ajlun as well as Umm Qais. These are all smaller towns outside of Amman, historic cities known for their Roman ruins, castles, and spectacular views. Hadrian's Arch in Jerash, Jordan. The next day, we had our organized group trip to Umm Qais. Umm Qais is right on the northwest corner of Jordan, we could see the Sea of Galilee, Israel and the Golan Heights in Syria. October 21, 2012. Twice a week in the evenings, we go to a refugee center here in Amman to teach an English class. The students range in age from high school age to adults and are from Somalia, Sudan, Chad, Syria, Iraq and other places. I’ve really enjoyed teaching so far, mostly because the students are so excited to learn English, they’re so attentive and grateful- ideal pupils. Wadi Rum, Ramadan. From Amman to New York state →.
