Fishing Diary

Wednesday, 5 August 2015. As I crested a tall dune an expanse of sandy marshes dominated the view. With a strategically placed hand shading my eyes I could just make out the surf in the distance. On the far side of the dune the odd sunbather, picnickers and couples had their own little space where they were whiling away a few leisurely hours, basking in the early July heatwave and enjoying the solitude of a secret beauty spot. He must be mad. It's all about the Bass. Walking southwards towards the estuar...

Fishing Diary: March 2014

http://www.everyday-angler.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Friday, 14 March 2014. March Part 1 End of Season Special. You may remember on my last entry I detailed probably my best day ever on the bank. I fired an E-mail off to the Angling Times and they very kindly published it the following week. Not really sure what has happened to my fishing this winter but surely it couldn't get any better.could it? With only a couple of weeks of the fishing season proper left it had to be another river didn't it? Neil from the tackle shop had been down to the Chub river wit...

Fishing Diary: October 2014

http://www.everyday-angler.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 29 October 2014. The much maligned social network Facebook had provided me with an opportunity. A small fishing related group I am part of were having a fish-in. For a week I was met with the same look of astonishment from those close to me- "You mean to tell me you are spending a day with a load a blokes you've never met before? Back at base and the end of a day to remember. Apart from some great Bream and the elusive Swede (a huge Chub) the rivers have been tough going and as you know I had ...

Fishing Diary: September 2014

http://www.everyday-angler.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Friday, 5 September 2014. In the Clint Eastwood film Heartbreak Ridge there is a character called 'The Swede'. You may have seen it and remember him- no neck, massive shoulders, a freak of nature.a beast. Luckily not a PB but his belly was very empty and he will easily be in the winter. I'll leave his true weight till we are re-united later in the year. As a consolation I pressed the shoot button anyway. The Perch were a little bigger on my favourite river and more importantly I've found a couple of spot...

Fishing Diary: August 2014

http://www.everyday-angler.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, 2 August 2014. With a little help from my friends. To be honest even though I had found them I didn't fancy my chances, they were too close in and surely it was too hot and sunny for them to feed? To my amazement they did and another couple of fish later and I was out of corn. 6lb 7oz and 8lb 1oz. 7lb 8oz and the 8.5. Big Roach, quite how big I'm not sure. I have had a few on both my visits up to a pound or so. Sorry about the picture, I suffered from 'one last cast' syndrome that night. Couple...

A Specialist Anglers Diary: Back to the barbel - A tale of three rivers

http://www.speci-angler.co.uk/2015/01/back-to-barbel-tale-of-three-rivers.html

A Specialist Anglers Diary. The story so far. Friday, 2 January 2015. Back to the barbel - A tale of three rivers. The Soar in all its glory. One of two 5lb chub in three trips. One thing I have been doing a bit this year is sticking a small bright "sight blob", for want of a better word, on top of the hair rigged boilie. Carp anglers have been doing this for donkeys years so why not barbel? With the fish returned I finally sat down and made another cast. Again it was only a matter of minutes before ...

A Specialist Anglers Diary. The story so far. Tuesday, 24 September 2013. River Trent barbel fishing - learning the ropes. Pocket rockets from down "The Grove". Just when you think that you've seen it all. Go and fetch your mum son. An hour later his twin brother put in an appearance. I had been told that this stretch threw up more doubles than singles so trust me to go and put the mockers on things first time out! Posted by Rob Thompson. 25 September 2013 at 11:16. A Specialist Anglers Diary. The story so far. Sunday, 27 April 2014. A chub finale - Derwent days and nights. It's fair to say that I've struggled to keep up with my blog over recent months, mostly down to other commitments but I also find that when I get out of the swing of writing it can be hard to break back into. Hence I have a number of part written blogs sitting on my pc as yet unpublished, including one that was 95% written on an Indian beach way back in January! A rank winter dominated by floods ...

A Specialist Anglers Diary. The story so far. Sunday, 24 August 2014. A tale of tench, carp, and brick walls - blog update. Remember the Pringles advert, once you pop you can't stop? What could of been. So I hadn't been seeing things after all. Well you won't hear me complain at the capture but I was starting to wonder what on earth I had to do to catch a barbel, I certainly seemed to be on a rather bizarre run of sessions so far that's for sure. Erm, you aren't a barbel are you. Posted by Rob Thompson.

http://www.speci-angler.co.uk/2014/01/river-derwent-chub-on-mission-for.html

A Specialist Anglers Diary. The story so far. Saturday, 11 January 2014. River Derwent chub - on a mission for a monster. My brother with a typical Soar chub from our childhood. My dad with a Soar monster! Typical Soar chevin of latter years. Once again it was a fish that I could match up as one that my dad had caught on the first day of the season at 5lb's exactly. The scales pulled round to a tidy 5lb 8oz and gave me a new personal best, this little campaign was starting to take off. 27 January 2014 at...
