Expedition Kayaks: Which Surfski for Me?
http://expeditionkayaks.blogspot.com/2015/04/which-surfski-for-me.html
Wednesday, 22 April 2015. Which Surfski for Me? Surfski paddling on the new breed of ocean racing skis, has moved very quickly in recent years from the exclusive domain of elite surf lifesaving athletes, to one where even the most modest of recreational paddlers can now enjoy the rush of chasing a wave in these sleek boats. Photo by Alan Coker (. Note, our impressions of these boats are based on our own paddling. We have coached and instructed scores of paddlers over the past couple of years specifically.
Expedition Kayaks: Winter Safety - The rescueME EDF1 Electronic Flare & Delorme inReach Explorer
http://expeditionkayaks.blogspot.com/2015/07/winter-safety-rescueme-edf1-electronic.html
Wednesday, 8 July 2015. Winter Safety - The rescueME EDF1 Electronic Flare and Delorme inReach Explorer. The water has gotten cold, daylight hours have shortened, and general safety margins on the sea are lower at this time of the year than they are at any other. Now more than ever it's important to be diligent with your float plan, and carry the right kit to minimise your exposure in potentially cold water if something does go wrong. Our Delorme inReach Explorer secured to Mark's Swordfish footwell.
Expedition Kayaks: December 2014

Sunday, 14 December 2014. Pain and No Gain in the 20 Beaches. Last year's 20 Beaches Ocean Classic remains one of the all-time great days on the water, a rollicking run from Freshwater to Palm Beach in a fresh howling southerly, golden beach after beach whistling past as we surfed our way along the coast, and then a crash landing through the surf at the finish. The mayhem around the turning can (thanks to Surfski Australia). Me going past the ocean can (white visor,. Thanks to Surfski Australia. Another ...
Expedition Kayaks: Tiderace Pace 17S - Fast Touring for Smaller Engines
http://expeditionkayaks.blogspot.com/2015/06/tiderace-pace-17s-fast-touring-for.html
Wednesday, 3 June 2015. Tiderace Pace 17S - Fast Touring for Smaller Engines. We're a few days away from landing our first Tiderace Pace 17S, the first fast touring design to reach our shores aimed at smaller paddlers. It promises much, filling a gap in the market that has been wide and barren since the Taran revolutionised fast expedition paddling. If you've always felt like you were swimming around in your expedition boat this may well be the kayak that consigns the foam fitout blocks to the bin forever.
Expedition Kayaks: Plastic Fantastic - The Epic V7 & Vajda Raptor Arrive
http://expeditionkayaks.blogspot.com/2015/03/plastic-fantastic-epic-v7-vajda-raptor.html
Tuesday, 17 March 2015. Plastic Fantastic - The Epic V7 and Vajda Raptor Arrive. There can be no questioning the boom in surfski paddling over the past 5 years, driven exclusively by the innovative ski designers who have made this fast and rewarding craft accessible to all, through the development of super stable hull shapes. They're both light in comparison to kayaks, weighing in at 19kg and 20kg respectively, and in testing both have laid strong claims to genuine surfski performance. The Raptor is made...

KI-yak : Blogging about Sea Kayaking on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea. Wednesday, 11 May 2011. Well, if you're thinking about sea-kayaking on Kangaroo Island, I guess you need to have a fair idea of what you are doing. I'm a little disconcerted when people rock up to go paddling in T-shirts and jeans, with a sit-on-top kayak and a pair of whitewater paddles. You ain't coming sea-kayaking with me, with that shit. A real sea kayak. For me, se...

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Wednesday, 28 September 2011. The Hawkesbury: picking a paddle. I’m training for the Hawkesbury Classic again (. Http:/ www.canoeclassic.asn.au/. Eighth consecutive year, the second time I’ll be doing it in a single. On the last weekend I did a 40k return training run from Wiseman’s to the far side of Last Pit Stop. I joined Raewyn, Neil, Mark Schroeder and Roger White. Ready to go, Rae's Flash in the BG. My Mirage in front, with Aleut on foredeck. My options for boat were Greenland...

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Monday, 24 October 2011. Down To The River. The Hawkesbury Canoe Classic: Australia’s most famous paddle marathon, an alleged 111km down the Hawkesbury overnight. This was my eighth time along the creek, second time solo. Cathy doubled up with Rae to paddle the 730, I was in my trusty Mirage 580. This time around I was using the Greenland blade, Ron Steinwall’s #228 carbon fibre number. Most of the NSWSKC paddlers. Usual palaver: a carload of gear, food, water, registration, scrutin...

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Sunday, 28 September 2014. What is the impulse that always drags you on, around the next bend, the next headland, over the next ridge? It’s so strong and so seductive. it must be hardwired. Why is it that you need to consciously decide to stop while your soul, left to its own devices, will trundle on happily forever exploring the next unseen thing? No exactly a beauty parade, but look at that determination! Munyang carpark, dry as, bro. This year we also found new country. Two y...

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Monday, 7 July 2014. A short weekend at the snow. So it all looked good: finally the snow-drought had broken, a week of decent falls and an optimistic outlook. After canning a trip on the June long weekend (too much bushwalking) suddenly it seemed the snow gods were lining the ducks up. I had arranged with the unsuspecting Mark Schroeder to head down, and then found my prior travelling companions Tony Murphy and Karen Darby were also planning to be south. Last we'll see of it. Here&...

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Tuesday, 1 May 2012. In mid April we were fortunate enough to have Greenland gurus Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson visit. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend their clinics due to work but they held a club day on Sunday . I’ve put together a video of the demo that Cheri did with Turner narrating. Cheri demonstrates 37 different rolls. I missed shooting ( of all things) the standard roll and balanced brace, so that would make it 38 rolls. Here's what's in the video:. Roll With A Rock.

Water, rock and movement. Monday, 24 March 2014. Fishing in the blue cave. I lead this trip the last day of RnR. I was leading Selim and Vincent. We went into many crevasses, over some rocks and some caves. One of the caves was reckoning moment for Selim. My wife thinks I exaggerated a bit with the music. What do you think? Tuesday, 18 March 2014. Tollgates Islands and Rock and Roll. Wade about to run dry. Lots of fun around. Mr Honey in his boat. Paddling inside the islands. And around the islands.

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Friday, 31 January 2014. I began to hanker for a new challenge. A couple of years ago I bought some Carbon Fibre sticks from Ron at Novorca. I had no idea how such things may be made…. This is the point at which the Imp of the Perverse habitually stirs on my shoulder and whispers into my ear the familiar words: “How hard can it be? The plan crystallised in my mind: a core carved from solid balsa, sheathed in a composite sleeve and locked in layers of fragrant epoxy goodness. Then of...

Expedition Karabane - adventure travel
West Africa is very close, quiet, with a multitude of landscapes, ethnic diversity . desert, jungle, beaches, colonial cities, national parks, animist traditions, . What more could you want? Senegal is a tropical country with great beaches, natural beauty and exuberance wrapped by its people, warm and quiet. We can choose luxurious hotels in a tourist area like the Petite Cote, Saly, or lost in quiet secluded beaches in Casamace, Cap Skirring, etcetera. It is an ideal place to "unplug" and strengthen ties.

Updates on our paddling adventures, products and reviews, as they happen. Tuesday, 27 March 2018. The Epic 18X Double - Reviewed. Epic announced a new double touring sea kayak late in 2017, and we were quick to order a demo, seeing the potential for a light weight, stable and fast design in a market where at the moment there isn't really anything like that in a double. The ergonomics are excellent, a high leg position allowing a full leg drive, seats which adjust fore and aft to accommodate paddlers of d...
