Cajun Cornbread Casserole | Feed Your Vegan
http://feedyourvegan.com/2015/06/02/cajun-cornbread-casserole
As mentioned in my last post, here is the recipe from Lindsay S. Nixon (a.k.a. The Happy Herbivore. For Cornbread Casserole. One of the first recipes I ever made as a vegan was a Hot Tamale Pie. From the Food Empowerment Project’s website. Which was delicious and I’ve been experimenting with variations of that pie ever since. Both recipes are excellent but this is the one I turn to most frequently as I prefer the technique for cooking the cornmeal in this one. Original recipe by Lindsay S. Nixon. In a sm...
Easy Vegan Gravy | Feed Your Vegan
http://feedyourvegan.com/2015/07/19/easy-vegan-gravy
And the version below is my take on it. Regardless of what version you use, this is a great recipe: easy to make, takes little time to prepare and a healthier substitute to canned gravy. What I also like about this recipe is it serves as a base if you want to make a more elaborate gravy. For instance, you could add mushrooms or red wine or fresh herbs – whatever additional ingredients sound good to you. Modified from the original recipe. At Vegetarian.About.com. Makes approximately 2 cups, Serves 4.
Animals and Food | Feed Your Vegan
http://feedyourvegan.com/animals-and-food
Most of us have been conditioned from a young age to use metaphors to describe animals, in particular the ones we eat. This language has distanced us from the reality of what we are really eating and has served to justify our participation – both passive and active – in a cruel and terrifying industry, an industry that kills over 650 million animals every year. In Canada (and that’s just land animals). Chickens for their Eggs. Chickens for their Flesh. Cows for “Beef”. Cows for their Milk.
Soups | Feed Your Vegan

Pumpkin Coconut Curry Soup. The Spring weather finally seems to have arrived but there were a couple of days recently that still seemed to warrant a warm and soothing soup for dinner. I found this recipe featured on the MeatOut Mondays website. And it was very quick to make for a weeknight meal. I didn’t quite follow the recipe to the letter (I rarely do) but you can read the original recipe here. My variations are listed below. Continue reading →. May 7, 2015. Seasonings and Spices | Feed Your Vegan

This is a recipe created by Lindsay Nixon, author of The Happy Herbivore. Cookbooks. Her recipes are also regularly featured on the Forks Over Knives website. Which is where I first found this (. Is also an excellent documentary. And one worth seeing, especially if you are concerned about your health or find yourself on a growing number of prescription medications). Continue reading →. I no longer add to this page since this blog has moved to Wordpress. To still check out this page or read my vegan story. Forget the stereotypes about vegans: it's not all granola, tofu and Kumbayah. Believe me when I say that I never. Thought I would be a vegan: I grew up with the same meat and cheese diet most Westerners did and yet here I am, discovering new foods to love that don't involve the terrible suffering of animals. I love that his hat nearly stays on but his shoes fly off. A friend sent me a link to blog post. She’s right. Besides, at the end of the day, if people think I suck or they don’t agree with me, they’re under no obligation to read anything I ever do again. So What does this mean? And it really isn’t the job – it’s me. The plan is to stay at the job (...
Try the Vegan | Faking a Living

Working to Live. Pretending to Care. Skip to primary content. Why “Try the Vegan”? Well, here’s the thing: regardless of what your views may be on eating meat and dairy, the way animals are raised today for their flesh, milk, eggs and other by-products is nothing short of a horror show and it’s something none of us should be okay with it whether we’re omnivores, vegans, vegetarians or otherwise. You can read my vegan story here. You are also welcome to reach me via my two other blogs: themeanvegan.com.
