Tuesday, 26 May 2009. The final stages of work were taken from the Nottingham Contemporary design work for the facade of the building. The concrete lace panels shown here, were designed from an 1847 piece of Richard Birkin machine made Valencienne lace. I was involved in this design work for the building. Tuesday, 26 May 2009. This collection of fabrics derived from the stone carvings in the artwork. They were produced on a Monarch Knit machine. Apart from the metallic grey, the soft colours were obtained by knitting the fabric in white and then dyeing afterwards, to co-ordinate with the selected colour palette. I am currently working on two pieces of lace (although neither is moving much due to university final year work load), at the top is another collar of the same size as the previous one, and again drafted from a photocopy of an antique piece.
